A bit of happy news amongst the sad - my youngest niece got engaged yesterday. Thrilled for her.

I like to spend some of my free time doing some Karaoke.
For your listening pleasure I decided to do a famous Canadian song by "Stompin Tom Conners" The Hockey song on Wednesday night

Scary as fata but a good ending

Mrs Puppet is going to get a new knee!
My wife has horrible, HORRIBLE osteoarthritis in both of her knees which has pretty much rendered her an invalid. She's gone to countless surgeons and specialists for years, but they've always denied her surgery because she's "too young" for the procedure. Yesterday she saw a new doctor who admitted that she's too far gone for treatment, and she's finally got a date booked for surgery. You can't imagine the relief she has.

"Too young" is an insane judgment call on the doctors' part. My mother had both her knees replaced in her late 50s, at which point she was already so far gone with respect to the rest of her joint mobility in her back and lower body that she was walking with a cane years earlier. Now she can barely walk at all, despite the titanium knees. Maybe if they'd done it a decade earlier she could have rehabbed for a far better quality of life.

Any day where something bad happens to a bad person is a good one.
One of the most arrogant, disrespectful bullies I have ever had the displeasure of working with was s###canned today. I never received the worst of it, although I had my run-ins with this human-shaped bag of dog turds.
If I feel this much lighter going into work tomorrow I can only imagine how much relief must be sweeping across the numerous people I've witnessed them abuse in my short time.
I mean, this guy was a real jerk.

I'm fighting this battle now. Doctors keep telling me I'm too young for surgery and for any meds stronger than Tylenol. Lose weight and physiotherapy. Really puts a damper into any sort of sporting life.
Super annoying.

Sounds like a former boss of mine. Years later I still have ptsd from that egotistical narcissistic sociopathic poo-head who was wrong so much more often than right. Joy erupted upon his “resignation”. But much carnage prior to that.

Happy for my kids and their friends doing well at the things they have put a lot of effort and energy into. Nice to see hard work pay off! Good life lessons.
Always earned, never given.

My daughter
God damn she makes me happy and proud.
She currently has a research position with a Concussion study at U of C, but she also has another research position working on a a study on adapted physical activity.
So much smarter than me

Yeah, my daughter is a rock star, too. Snowboard instructor in the winter and now she's been a lifeguard for a few months at a large pool. She literally saved a kid's life a few weeks ago. She's a hero. Little Matthew...whoever you are out there...hope you're doing well, buddy! This kid's dad was so grateful to my daughter, too.
And she's so fricken humble I had to tease out the details from her. If I had saved some drowning kid I'd have "hero" on my business card and in my email signature.

My daughter plays on my beer league team.
I think 1 year ago she noticed one of the old guys looked "not good" after the game. We were all just making fun of him, turns out his heart was electrically all ####ed up.
She identified something was wrong with him and sorted help.
We cracked beers.

Yeah...its rewarding. I was a Lifeguard for a bit there. Granted, it didnt go all that 'hot-awesome' but I was still out there...guarding lives...and such.
Unenthusiastically.

It really makes me happy to go to a city park like Bowness on a nice weekend and see the place full of groups and families hanging out, sharing food, making BBQ and kids running around and playing. I'm grateful that we have such excellent facilities in the city where people can come together and enjoy themselves.

Enjoy
The last time I was in Europe the Wall had just fallen and I was a 22 yr old idiot.
I need to go back to see how it has changed.
