It’s not going away. Gambling is the league’s main strategy for promoting engagement with young men who have zero interest in watching a 3 hour hockey game. Every other league in North America wishes it was the NFL, and they know how much of that league’s popularity comes from sports betting.

For those that joked about the European teams having ads on our shirts, welcome to our world (sort of, in a small way)

Yes, thank you Cliff.

An unintentionally poignant point. Yeah, maybe influential people are people who only know how to prioritize becoming more influential. What do the Ken Kings of the world hold sacred?

The Coyotes having a Goodwill sticker on their helmets was unbelievably ironic. This is fine.

I know it won't be the case, but I would okay with gambling jersey ads if it meant it got rid of gambling tv ads.

It will get worse and worse until there is something really bad that happens that tarnishes the sport, and leaves a lot of people super angry at being cheated out of money.

A criminal is brought up on charges of racketeering, as as part of it it's revealed that he made payments to an NHL referee who worked the finals.

Suddenly, not only is the integrity of the sport damaged, but an astrix goes up next to the cup champs (who didn't do anything wrong), and every single scrub who dropped $5 on the cup loser goes out of their mind.

Make no mistake - something like this is coming. It's just a question of when.

THAT will be the point where the NHL slows their roll on sports gambling.

It might already be answered, but if you buy a jersey, does it come with the patch, too?

Nah lots of cheating scandals in other leagues and it’s had no affect

Unless the NFL has a major scandal no one will care

We're going to be going for high lottery picks the next few seasons, might as well lean into it.

Well, this is revolting.

These sports gambling ads are going to be a thing we look back at in 20 years and wonder how we tolerated it. I honestly feel bad for anyone who has a legitimate gambling problem, you just can't watch sports anymore, I guess.

Will be interesting now that Fanatics will be selling the true authentic on ice versions of jerseys league wide, if that model specifically will have ad patches on or not.

Otherwise, I assume, the patches will not be sold on retail jerseys, like most every other NA sport.

Don't like it, but it was inevitable. At least the colors aren't contrasting, but I think there's a tweak to be made for the helmet stickers which are comically large.

seemed implied...you said you hope they sell less jersey's for the 7 years of this contract...just saying they will have even more ads or bigger ads by the time that is due.

I doubt it. More likely in 20 years we’ll look back at the time before sports was saturated with gambling the way we look at old broadcasts of NHL games without ads on the boards - as a quaint, bygone era.

I think worse than ads is how commentary talks about changing betting odds during every sports broadcast
