Default neighborhood cat

It seems as though one of my neighbors cats has taken a liking to using the area between our house as it's personal litter box. It stinks and is really driving me nuts.

Anybody have any sensible ideas for dealing with this?

(I would love to shoot the damn thing but that's not an available option)

Call animal control?

We just moved to a new house and there is a cat that the neighbours let out all the time. He digs in my yard and in any garbage bags we have before garbage day.

Animal control is being called after I speak with them, if they are not willing to keep the cat indoors. Pets should not be allowed to run around like this.

Plant some azaleas and rub some catnip on their leaves.

my suggestion is a pellet gun. It'll only sting it. If the owners aren't responsible enough to keep it in the house it deserves a good welt or three.

Marigolds seem to be the cure all for getting rid of most pests. We found a 4 foot garter snake (I kid you not) in our yard about two summers ago. One of the things I read that keeps snakes away is marigolds. I also found out that it keeps away other creatures that you don't really want haning around, but I forget what those creatures are at this juncture.

We did not plant marigolds but instead I bought a bunch of mothballs and placed them around the house and yard... lol. After placing the mothballs all over the place, I talked to my dad and asked him how far apart I should've placed the moth balls. He told me about 4-6 feet apart. Well, needless to say we didn't have any vistors of any sort, snakes, cats, mice, friends, family etc for a loooong time.... why? I used up two boxes and I placed them on average of one foot apart around the permiter of my house, the perimiter of my yard and random places in between.

Haven't seen a snake, mouse or skunk in my yard since then. (I live in Lethbridge along the edge of the coulees) Unfortunately mormon missionaries and Jehovah Witnesses still come to our door.

just paint a pentagram in blood on your front door, that should take care of those pesky bible thumpers better than any mothballs

Tell your cat owning neighbor about the problem, if it doesn't stop then get some oil and food coloring and spread it all over the cats preferred area. With their carpets and god knows what else stained with food coloring your neighbors will be more likely to pay attention to where their cat chooses to do their business.

Do marigolds or mothballs keep birds away, specifically Canada Geese. I'm sick of them using the yard at the cottage as a latrine.

Bowl of anti-freeze should do the trick.
