I didn't say surprised. I said disappointed.
Flames really haven't had a ton of success developing centers I think. Outside of the plug and play Monahan, not much has come through the pipeline since.
Hopefully Zary pops as a center.

Well they are trying to experiment. Maybe they can develop a Backlund replacement.
Any top line C we have going forward will come through the draft, or if someone puts one on the market.

Which is why you prioritize centres over wings in the draft, particularly in the early rounds. You have to draft them, and draft them early.
This draft is going to be an excellent chance to get one.

I like Stromgren but I really wanted them to take Raty.
Still a toss up whom out of the two will play in the show but center vs winger .
This year, I really really wanted Helenius but Parekh was too good to pass up. Which is fine.
Flames really do have too much of a dearth of centers organizationally.
And the fact Nikolaev can't seem to crack a full time AHL spot when there are no centers is like I said, disappointing.

That's a really tough spot to start in. I hope not. He's gonna be buried in his own zone against other teams top lines. Rookies struggle with that.

Um, phrasing?

I think Helenius' ceiling is pretty low. But he probably would have been the heir apparent to Backlund which is pretty valuable. But I think Parekh has all-star D potential.
I was/is very much of the mind that the 2024 draft was all about getting a top pairing D and 2025 is all about getting a centre. Which is why I was quite opposed to drafting Tij.

Pretty sure Gvality posted its Zary starting on that line. They may get rotated, but Conroy said they want to get to their NHL roster as soon as possible.

Probably the same reason no Littler or Hoskin. They are busy with college as classes have started now.

Generally because college classes would have already started and season would be starting.
Also just one of those weird gray areas with the NCAA around a pro status and eligibility for certain things, but one rule that I think is set in stone is you can't miss classes to attend a camp and retain eligibility.
I think you also have to pay your own expenses after 48 hours (team can pay for first 48 hours but beyond that it's your own expense).
I think it's been loosened up a bit but once upon a time you couldn't even play in an CHL exhibition game (even when you were 15/16/17 before you'd even be at college) without losing your NCAA eligibility.

I suspect that 12 months from now, Conroy will have done for the centre position what he did in the last 12 months for Dman prospects. Hopefully, that includes a blue-chip prospect equivalent to Parekh.

He’ll have to draft heavy. Hard to get any decent center prospects in a trade

Presumably for the blue chipper but he'll likely try to extract a Brz or Grush equivalent at centre, too.

I’ve been told it is open to the public.
Hoping maybe Ryan can confirm?

The next two days at Winsport would be open to the public. Can't imagine how they'd not allow it.
