Of the 25 players they brought to Penticton, only 8 were Oilers draft picks, and only 2 of those were chosen in the first 4 rounds.

The 2 or 3 they do have there are pretty good though.

Can't say there was a standout Flame for me this year, except maybe Ignatjew, but maybe that's a function of his age vs. the rest of the players in the tourney.
Overall the teamwork and chemistry was well above what I would have expected. Kept it entertaining tonight when it looked like it might turn into a laugher for a few minutes there.

Hmmmmm. We were outshot 20-2 in the second period. That’s not what I saw.

The Flames had 14 players under 20 years old at the tournament.
Going by the ages listed on Capwages, the Canucks had six.
Looks to me like most of the Canucks' prospects are in the AHL already, and some are getting pretty long in the tooth for prospects.

Isn't Morton already 25? He damn well better stand out against a bunch of teenagers and 20 year olds

Fine by me. It gives our youngsters the opportunity to play against AHLers. I view that as a very good thing.
That’s essentially what we did when Treliving kept trading picks away.

It was probably best for every player on the Flames to play against lineups that were basically AHL lineups with a few prospect sprinkled in.
I think they did fairly well, unfortunately Murphy was leaking like sieve and gave up a number of questionable goals.

Obviously he should be more polished than the 18 year olds. I don't think many people thought that he was going to push for an NHL spot when he signed at the end of last season.
25 years old signed out of college? Looks like AHL depth on paper but this kids a player.

My biggest question right now is if Matvei Gridin just played himself onto the Wranglers.
Stromgren - Morton - Gridin seems like a great spot for him to insolate and develop.

I think the average age for the Flames team they brought was a full year younger than the Canucks. In the game yesterday, without Morton in the lineup, the average age for the forward group was 19.7. Defense was 19.1. That is a very young team going up against a lineup that had a number of players with multiple years playing as a pro.

Yeah, he can play for the Wranglers. There's no reason for them to not give him a chance in the AHL to see if he can cut it.

Didn't he commit to the Q though?

He was drafted in the Import draft. Not sure what that means for is ability to turn pro.

He didn't sign with the Q yet so my understanding was that he is still eligible for AHL. I assumed this tourney may have been the reason for the delay - so management can decide if he can develop in the AHL.

I think the agreement CHL has with the NHL when they are drafted from the league is typically the issue. Since he is coming from the USHL, that doesn't apply. I also don't know if he has actually committed to the Q. Not from what I can recall.
