That Chapman contract is a head scratcher. It could be bad as early as next year. Chapman's bat is going to be sketchy, as is every aging player.

Yeah. I think if he said he was going to opt-out unless you give him that you say OK, we appreciate the 1 year.

Since this post, they have gone 2-12. Now 33-115, it's amazing.

The White Sox (and Vladdy) are my favourite stories of the season.

They made me nervous when they won twice in 4 games against Baltimore and Boston.

They are up 2-0 tonight and including this game have 8 left vs Oakland and the Angels are are the next two worst teams. So I hope this doesn't let them finish 7-7 and ruin it all

The announcer at T-Mobile Park sounds like Beasley.

Well the Angels didn't completely screw it up taking the last two. Still 3-6 is the target record in these last 9. 3 more against the Padres who are in the NL playoff mix. Than 3 more with the Angels and 3 against a Tigers team also trying to get in. But holy fack is 39 and 123 a hard record to get to. They go 5-15 in 20 games and that puts it in jeopardy!

I haven't followed this MLB season at all.

But holy heck, what happened to the Rangers? I guess their title last year was a fluke after all...

Injuries.

Batting lineup has been wonky, with a few players having career lows.

Couldn't get the majority flowing.

That's said, lots of bright spots. Expect a bounce back year from Seager, Semien, Garcia. Some consistency in pitching. Hopefully Eovaldi is back, he has a player option for $20 million, but if I were him, I'd decline and test free agency (if the Rangers don't just offer him something reasonable as an extension).

Langford will be a force next year.

You think Eovaldi declines the option? I'd be surprised if a 35 year old with 3.96 ERA and 1.16 whip gets more than $20MM x 1 year on the open market.

The AL Central is pretty insane. 4 of 5 teams in the race and will finish mid-80s or higher in wins but they're only a collective +16 against "all MLB teams that aren't the White Sox". They are going to send three teams to the playoffs.

Detroit has won 25 out of 35 games with smoke and mirrors and bullpen and openers. Beau Brieske has started eight times in that span, totaling ten innings. Brant Hurter has earned wins in his last five appearances, coming in after the opener in the last four. It's bizarre.

I'd love for him to be back. He's money under pressure and is the type of player that makes those around him better.

This year would be a lot uglier if he wasn't being the leader he is with the pitching staff.

Sure, not saying he's a bad pitcher at all. But there are only 19 starters in MLB making more than $20MM per year. So looking for a raise on $20MM means you're looking for top level ace type money. I don't think he gets much term given his age, so taking that $20MM seems rational to me.

Maybe he can get 2x $15 and would prefer that or something.

Ohtani got to 50/50! Also probably had the best ever game for a batter. 6/6 with 3 HR, 10 RBI, and 2 SBs. Came close to hitting for the cycle too but was thrown out trying to stretch a double into a triple.

I know hes got protection within the batting order which the Jays couldn't give him, but I think he would've singlehandedly brought the Jays into the playoffs.

Just a beast. Next year he will pitch again too, don't forget.

There isn't a single player who does that in baseball. Maybe a pitcher but even then one player doesn't make that much of a marked improvement to a team this bad.

That bat makes this whole lineup slot better.

I wouldn't be surprised if they had him this season that they could be a wildcard team.
