I fully expect Rasmus Andersson to be traded this season at some point. I don't expect this is breaking news.

Agreed, I expect Andersson will request for a trade during the season...
In my view, he is moved near the deadline

Ivan Ryabkin, Anton Frondell, and that James fella seem like the three slam dunk centres at this point. Misa seems to have that "is he an LW or a C" question around him. Does McQueen end up going that high?

We don’t even know who the goalie will be forget the patchwork D and mishmash of forwards.
This is going to be a bad team. Bottom 5 easily.

To me the bottom 5 teams for next year are:
For sures: Chicago/San Jose
Also pretty cruddy: Calgary, CBJ.
Candidates to move up but still could be bottom 5: Montreal, Anaheim, Arizona
Could be worse and move down into bottom 5: Seattle, Minny.
No Good: Edmonton.
I've got Calgary in the bottom 3 actually. I think that's Chicago, SJ and Calgary.

Chicago and San Jose will have some pressure to be better. Especially San Jose after the moves they made.

That pressure would be mis-placed. It's too soon and they haven't added nearly enough. Still VERY bad rosters.

Just saw some rankings that have us and San Jose as the 2 worst teams.

I think San Jose will be substantially better than last year. Which is to say, they might be last overall with 60 points instead of 47.
It's very unusual to see multiple teams below 60 points in a season.

I believe in this group. We can get to 60.
We deserve some luck.

Is Bahl, Bean, and Lomberg really going to propel that "decent" forward group to something more significant than what they were?
Are the Flames worse than the:
Blackhawks? I think so.
Sharks? No. Bottom 3, alongside the Ducks and Flames.
Ducks? No. Bottom 3 alongside the Sharks and Flames.
Blue Jackets? I think so. Their youth has been stockpiling and could explode.
Canadiens? I think so.
Senators? I think so.
Kraken? I think so.
Utah HC? I think so.
I think you're looking at a Flames, Ducks, Sharks race to the bottom. You'll likely see a mid-ranged team collapse down closer to the bottom as well...although you could argue that Calgary probably is the most likely team in that range to tumble down.
|
Its not like Markstom played well after the deadline...I think the D is substantially better than what they were icing at that time. I honestly think the forwards are lacking high end but its a deep group. Now should they start trading guys you are probably right but as as I don't see them as bottom 5 as is. Goaltending is a big question mark to be sure though however I like both guys to be at least average. I mean the team started 2-7-1 last year and I'm betting they start better this season. The young and youngish players on the Flames are better than people think....I also think a few guys thrive with far less pressure (Huberdeau). The PP will be substantially better than last season with Kuzmeko and Barrie (maybe) Like what forwards did they lose? Lindholm who was awful and Mangi? Kuzmenko and Mantha certainly up them on skill.
This won't be a 60 point team IMO

We have 2 centres on the team and will be experimenting with wingers to play up the middle.
This team is not deep at all lol.
We have 2 established dmen. It’s really not better than what we iced.
Bad team.

come on now, its a low bar but far better than what they were icing after the deadline. Jake Bean is not an established NHLer? Bahl? Barrie? Yes the Flames D is better than what they were icing after the deadline

This might be a year where the worst teams are in the 60 to 65 point range. In 07/08 the Lighning and Kings with 71 points were the two worst teams. In 10/11 the Leafs at 74 were the second worst team.
After a prolonged stretch where the bad teams were really bad, things are due to tighten up a bit and have the bad teams being a bit better. Ideally if the Flames have to be a cellar dweller, I'd rather it be when 72 points and winning 32 games still let's you be there.

Bean is the next best player we have. He’s decent.
The rest is continuing the Miramanov experiment. It’s very possible Tyson Barrie joins the group.
Weegar and Andersson. Andersson is likely gone at some point.
A backup goalie who isn’t very good is going to be a starter coming off hip surgery. The other goalie is a rookie. If can’t cut it the other is a journeymen.
Of this team cracks 70 points Huska should be named coach of the year.

Poor goaltending will deflate this team in the end.
I think the forwards will surprise, as will the defense to a point.
But when many bad nights from your goalies mean that the team doesn't trust them, and as a result you then have the team collapsing in front of them trying to block shots at any chance they get it filters down to no offense ; the transition game from the back goes away as they are in scramble mode, and the forwards don't get the puck in any sort of dangerous rush or position.

I already said if they start moving guys it could certainly go there...and the forwards are deep I don't care what anyone says. Which forward on the Flames top three lines is bad?
Some of you are acting like I am saying they are cup contenders...I am saying they aren't bottom 3...probably not bottom 5. I know I know draft picks, sorry fellas.

Only way we may come close to 70 is because or division sucks. Outside of that we don’t have the talent to play with a good portion of the NHL.
They will likely compete hard, but we don’t have the talent to score and win. Actually think scoring may not be that bad, but our goals against should be at the bottom of the league.
