We’ve always wanted to sail the St. Lawrence and Great Lakes. We’ll only get to do Lake Ontario; doing all if the lakes really expensive. We’ll explore Quebec and the Maritimes then down the east coast to Ft Lauderdale, hitting Trois-Rivières, Quebec City, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Norfolk and Charleston. It’s a dream trip. With Viking.

Tentative agreement between AC and their pilots has been reached. Membership will vote on it so still a chance it is rejected but it’s a positive step.

They moved into the North American market a few years ago. Rivers and the Great Lakes. I’m prepping now with online stuff and podcasts in the St. Lawrence and Lake Ontario. I write a small travel blog and am learning some fascinating stuff.

Great news. Id like to think they've seen the fallout from WestJet especially with the customers and don't want to give a reason to switch back to WestJet.

How honest are airlines when they report their reason for a cancelled/delayed flight? I am a bit cynical, but what stops an airline from coming up with a bogus reason for "unanticipated maintenance delays"? Like, can they just deflate the air in one of their tires and cancel and under booked flight? I am trying to file a complaint but seem to be getting blocked because they're hiding behind the "it's safety reasons" justification - which could or could not be the case.

Anybody have insight on this or where to verify that cause of a cancelled flight is legitimate or not?

Backstory - was planning on flying from YYC to YKF on Flair the morning of the August 30th, flight was cancelled because of unanticipated maintenance delays, and rescheduled for September 6th. Went to airport with no luck, customer support line was down for the night, eventually got a hold of a zendesk support agent and had the flight changed to YYZ for at least the same day and took an Uber to Waterloo. Got there about 17 hours later than originally planned.

I do know that day Flair did tow two planes to a hanger for maintenance in Calgary so maybe it was legit. But if not it wouldn't be the first time an airline stretched the truth in regards to a cancellation reason

After poilievre announced that he wanted the government to stay out of it there was almost zero chance that they were going to be legislated back to work immediately so I’m sure that helped motivate both parties but especially air Canada to get a deal done. Good news for the pilots, company and customers.

Do you know if there are any resources available to basic plebs to verify this or are we kind of at the mercy of the airline?

Really only way is to check the planes history that was due to take you, see when it took a next flight.

But that doesn't confirm exactly the problem, but can help.

Advice sought on an obscure travel goal: we’ve been to every province and the Yukon. Anyone know the best way to hit the other two territories by flying and renting a car?

Yellowknife looks to be a two-day drive for us so maybe drive up? Yellowknife is not far from Nunavut but is it drivable from Yellowknife? Anyone here done this drive?

I’m reading the Great Northern Canada Bucket List and it’s inspiring me.

Nunavut is inaccessible by car.

I recommend using a credit card with travel insurance when using a LCC like Flair. Or buy this:

I guess flying is the only way. We could still drive to Yellowknife and fly from there.

Not necessarily. Some of these trips look incredible, but...hopefully your bank account matches your CP handle.

You're stopping in Louisbourg rather than Sydney. I was going to say we should meet up when you're in Cape Breton. Louisboug isn't that far but too far to venture on work day (or Thanksgiving Monday if the math lines up).

Enjoy the Fortress its awesome. Bring a sweater.
