This AHL-eligibility rule is tough for the group of players like Parekh and Gridin where they are too good for juniors, not good enough for the NHL, but not eligible for the AHL. Where can they go?

Gridin is eligible for the AHL. AFAIK - and someone correct me if I am wrong here - even if he signs in the CHL now, and the Flames simply don't like his development there, they can just yank him out and assign him to the AHL, right (unless his contract specifically states that this can't happen)? The CHL agreement is exactly that - an agreement for players drafted out of that league. Gridin doesn't qualify as that, even if he goes and plays there this season.

Next year is interesting as he still won't be AHL eligible but I have a hard time thinking 2 more years in the OHL is best for him. I would not be surprised to know the Flames have him planned for next season knowing the two options are OHL or NHL. Stupid rule BTW.
I don’t think he’s ready for the NHL yet. Too bad he can’t play some games for the wranglers.

I agree. Seems super talented and smooth out there but casual and lacks attention to detail. Which is something that can result in an instant goal at the NHL level. OHL it is.

These guys need some seasoning yet, but at the same time are way too good for the leagues they came from. You almost want to get them in with the Wranglers right away to get the pro-level training underway to tidy up the overall game.

I believe Brz will be in the NHL much sooner than later. His poise and smarts are evident, as step ahead of the other younger d-men.

No wonder Bennett asked for a trade. People are crazy.

One thing is clear, to the extent our prospects are going to get us out of the rebuild, it won't be quick.

Unless we click quickly on a few exceptional players.

Outside of top 3 picks, prospects generally take 3 to 5 years to make the club full time. Then it takes a couple more to make an impact. Many prospects don't make it at all, and many that do have limited star power.

I think one of the reasons the Flames aren't blowing it up entirely is we didn't have a cupboard full of high end prospects. It's sort of like quitting your job to get more education to get a better job, only you don't have any savings.
