I am doubtful that anyone in this game starts in the NHL.
That said,
High skill guys I like.
BRZ the Flames best d man this game. I love how aggressive his tendencies are. His decision making doesn't scream NHL but its tough to judge guys when the games are so unstructured.
Honzek isn't a high event player, but I liked his positioning and there were serious flashes of skill. Every now and then he showed some muscle. Next year will be his year.
Parekh has so much potential. He is very casual with the puck. You can tell he isn't used to being challenged. I wish he could play in the AHL or SHL and get some reps in the men's game.
Bottom 6 type guys I like
Morton was the best player for the Flames. He is above this sort of thing, makes sense since he is older than most. I don't know about his skill being NHL level but a good showing for him
Lipinski if he can get his skating to the next level he will be a beast. I love his game and how he wants to own the middle of the ice.
Ciona is a 4th line type player but damn if his forecheck isn't deadly. In your face type of PKer a great sequence in the 2nd period driving the puck deep short handed.
Bell, another Energy guy. Love to see it.
Other thoughts.
Ignatjew looked good. A couple nice saves.
Stromgren and Gridin are high skill guys you can tell but they left me wanting.
Basha, Misa, battaliga and mews have tremendous skill, but they are very green.

Ignatjew was the best player in red for me, Brzustewicz the best defenceman, and of the forwards Lipinski looked hungry in my eyes. Stromgren should have a good season for the Wranglers as he is poised and heads up.

Hard not to be impressed with Basha. fun to watch and a great motor. Some fantastic passes. Lots to like there.
Ciona continues to impress. Like everything about his game. Moves well too. could be a great complementary player.
Brzustewicz was the best player out there in my mind. You can see the confidence growing and he reads the ice so well. Great pick up in the Lindholm trade.

I’d add in Grushnikov
Parekh played a lot better this game too.

McNamara looks like he has hands of stone. That said I liked other aspects of his game would keep an eye on him in OHL this coming season.

Honzek looked a little bit better this game than the last (low bar), but he definitely needs to show more. He's only played 35 games in the past calendar year, so I am willing to be patient.

It was fun to catch this one live. As raw as lot of the guys are the skill is quite evident.
Brzustewicz was my 1st star. Looked quite a bit more poised than I expected.
Early on a puck got rimmed high around the glass and smoked my 5 year old in the knee, ricocheted off him and got a lady in the head. My kid was fine pretty quick, small bruise, and got the puck (didnt see the lady the rest of the game, hope shes okay). He got a good story out of it. Reminded us the whole way home that it was a dirty oiler's fault.

Grushnikov is as advertised. Agreed, he's very solid. Rarely makes a mistake.
Parekh is raw but damn is he ever smooth out there. Tremendous skater and great offensive instincts. A little casual but that's minor.

Stromgren was a friggin monster at times, really good creativity, hands, and protection.
Basha and Misa already with good chemistry. Always dangerous and fast.
Gridin was more noticeable, tons of skill but was kind of fumbling it a bit.
I’m liking Mews, plays aggressive like he’s looking for the INT instead of sitting back.
Noticed Bell a little more last night, Ciona more tonight, he was all over. Both pretty good forecheckers though.
Bruz good at both ends again. For sure the best D.
Honzek was better at least. Looks skilled but maybe just low confidence or something.

I agree- he obviously has good hockey sense to always be in the right place on both sides of the puck, and he's got a nose for the net, but unfortunately no finish. He's a former OHL first-round pick.

So far, what this tournament is showing me is that we have a ton of good middle to lower roster prospects right now. I'm impressed by most of the draft picks from this year, and older guys like Stromgren and Morton. I don't anticipate everyone will make the show, but there are quite a few good players that have NHL abilities as long as they round out their game and learn how to get to NHL pace and decision making levels. There's plenty in the cupboard to fill out the roster.
We still need to find our top line guys through the draft, but I assume that will happen over the next couple years. Maybe Parekh (and possibly Brusztewich) can be top pairing defenders, but right now there's just too much to learn on the defensive side, especially for Parekh. I assume Zayne goes to junior for one more year based on what I've seen so far.
All in all, lots to like so far. Many of the better players for the Flames at this tournament are really young, so to see them looking good at that age is encouraging to say the least.
Be patient, there's talent in the pipeline. The team will start to reap the rewards in a couple years.
