just got home from the game - what a fun time for me and my kids (they had an absolute blast!). too bad about the ot loss, but whatever.

i'm not sure when the feed for the game started, but before the anthem the arena announcer asked for 13 seconds of silence in honour of the Gaudreau brothers. yea, the arena was pretty empty, but you could hear a pin drop.
the arena announcer then attempted to introduce the anthem singer but the guy was totally breaking down - just so emotional after the 13 seconds of silence.... it was pretty powerful.

i got to meet some flames fans who were an absolute blast - just great guys to chat with!
i was getting chirped by some oiler fan so i lifted my jersey to reveal my florida panthers shirt - that shut him up pretty quick - ha! ha!

Yeah wasn't really thinking that he played in it the season after he signed and before the 14-15 season

A totally normal reaction to a first pre-pre-season game.

Lipinski will be a force when he gets his skating up.

I’ve never seen a player improve his skating as much as Ciona has. In his draft year, he was slow enough to be left out of the draft.

With the players we left on the board to draft Honzek (namely Musty and Ritchie), I hope he shows something soon.

I thought my boy Battaglia struggled in the first, but looked better as the game wore on. He still has a lot more to show.

Mews likes to stay in the pocket as much as he can. Looked better as the game wore on as well.

Bru had good and bad moments, as well as some excellent ones. Very smart, with a good shot but needs more speed.
Gabe Perrault! and ASP too.

Big season foe Honzek. Lots of talk about him training with Pospisil. Hopeful he just needs a game or two to get his stride.

One way I like to enjoy the draft as a fan and to prepare for the draft in my hockey pool is to do a simple chart with draft year NHLe and date of birth. There were four forwards on my chart who were younger and had higher NHLes: Gabe Perreault, Quinton Musty, Andrew Cristall, and Colby Barlow. It just so happens that all of these forwards except Barlow went on to have amazing draft +1 seasons. That said, Samuel Honzek had a completely fine NHLe (32). The concerning things for me were that he’s a November birthday and his NHLe was based on a short season.

Any word on Etienne Morin and how he looked? I admit I wasn’t a fan of him being selected in the 2nd round with a bunch of skilled forwards still on the board, but I’m still hoping he can develop into a Weegar-type all around 2way defenseman and perhaps become a #3D in the future core. With the previous 2nd-round pick wasted on Ronni and both Stromgren and Kuznetsov looking far from being impact players in the NHL right now, it would be great to finally hear some positive news about one of our recent 2nd-round picks.

Early days of that draft isn’t looking the best for the Flames

After seeing Parekh, Gridin, Basha, Mews and Misa against much older players in a first pre-season game, I’m feeling stoked for the 2024 draft class though!!

Is there any way Parekh starts in OHL...gets emergency call up to the AHL ?
Or
Do we think another season in the OHL is better for his development.?

Because it's still a huge jump from O to the NHL. I know it's just one preseason game
But he looked slow, got out muscled on a few plays and Bruce looked a little more polished then he did and he'll at least benefit from going to to AHL .

As mentioned before though skating needs to be improved . Thank goodness we have a great skating coach that's worked wonders with Matty C.

All in all though yeah...this draft class pretty awesome

Parekh looked like a guy who was expecting to dominate and then got reminded each step is harder. I’m not worried at all about him. He will need a couple seasons of work on his overall game before he makes the NHL.

I think we've learned from Zary and Stromgren recently that we shouldn't assume a hiccup translates to bust.

Watch Parekh have good game tonight and all will be good. Some of the reactions to the first game these kids have played since last season is funny.

I thought the Flames did well against a team with a lot of pro experience. It took them a bit to find their legs. Looking forward to tonight.

Basha and Brzustewicz are the two that I thought stood out.

Per previous posts when I saw their lineup and how young it was I thought they would get destroyed. But they all got better as the game wore on. They were the better team in the last 2 periods. I expect they will look infinitely better today as they know what to expect and the players gel.

My comment about Parekh is that he obviously has some talent but he has to start realizing that this is his job and he’s not at the outdoor rink with his buddies. He doesn’t look as focused as Brzustewicz. It lost us the game yesterday.

Stromgren has made huge strides recently, he is much further along than I think many CPers think. Think he'll make a splash in the AHL this season with more ice time.
