Yeah the Caravan Voyager were the same, and so were the GM Safari and the Chevy Astro, and then you had the Ford Aerostar, all by itself.

The Dodge Caravan kept this world spinning from 1984 to 1996!
It got children to school, soccer and hockey! And it was majestic! Almost wall to ceiling with synthetic velour!

No no no, the Astro was for the everyman, and the GMC Safari was for blue-collar workin' folk like contractors (if you got the base, stripped-out version with vinyl seats and no carpets) or for a more discerning connoisseur who wanted something with more cachet (if you got the optioned-up ones with two-tone paint, mouse-fur seats, plush carpets and 'Dutch' doors [ where the top half of the back doors lifted up, and the bottom half was split into two small swinging doors]) and all-wheel-drive.
Now, the real fancy-pants GM customer bought The Cadillac of Minivans:

Oh now we need a Van thread!
It was a shame to imprison Candy in the first place!

Your challenging that their exists a group of people who believe they need an RV to go camping?
Your second sentence is not relevant to my position.

It's actually pretty funny to me that you can still find 85-96 caravan/voyagers driving around today. No chance a chrysler built today will be operational in 39 years. The quality of those old beasts was pretty sweet for utter volume they cranked out.
Helps that you could replace parts with regular elastic bands and #### might still work.

I think part of the explanation for that is they were so cheap used that some of the folks who liked them have bought a bunch and are slowly pillaging then for parts.

A couple of years ago we sold our low-mileage Dodge camper van. The buyers still send me photos of the van on trips.

How much #### did Black & Decker convince the public to buy in the 80's?

Is your view "widely held"? No, probably not. What's the threshold? 25%? 50%? 80%?

A lot.
And then Dyson took the reigns, and started charging a thousand bucks for a dustbuster:

I said this having owned a number of them and I stand by it:
Those 80s-90s Chryslers, regardless of trim or form, whether they're K-Cars or Caravans...they ran like absolute crap from the second they left the factory floor but they'd run like crap FOREVER.
And a disinterested child with a ball of twine could keep one running seemingly indefinitely.
They were like the AK-47s of the vehicular world. No matter how much mud, dirt or dust you dragged them through, they will start and they will go.
My mom's old Dodge Caravan had to be one of the most reliable unreliable vehicles ever made. There is no conceivable, logical way that Van should have survived as long as it did. None. It defies physics and the laws of man and nature.

If you asked RV owners do you need your RV to go camping I suspect the answer is 50-80% would say yes.
If you ask Truck owners if they need their truck 90+% will say yes.
I base the RV one on the number of people who when discussing camping without promoting say. I wouldn’t go if I still had to use my tent or My wife would never go if we had to use a tent. You might wonder how often this coversation comes up? It pretty much happens any time you talk about a camping road trip and someone finds out you use a tent.
The cause is mainly people being unable to define needs and wants as we have seen in this thread around the truck/SUV question.

I've 'Ground my Gears' on this a million times.
The cost of Air Travel within Canada is a travesty.
Why is it so significantly cheaper to travel abroad than within? And 'Distance' is a BS answer that I'll not accept. Its cheaper for me to fly to London (the good one) than Toronto.
Sort it out Canada. And its not because you're paying your pilots too much, I'm not having that answer either.

Air Travel in Canada is pretty whacked. Never mind pricing, just how its done. Was looking for a flight from Nova Scotia to Newfoundland they were offering connections through Hamilton and Toronto and Montreal.
