So yesterday I took one for the team, and found Fox News Radio on my AM dial.

It was the Sean Hannity show. And it revealed to me why 40% of the country supports Trump even in light of things like that debate.

Without exaggeration what was said was:

• Trump is a really sharp guy, and a successful business man. The only reason he struggled was due to lack of preparation.
• He must have assumed he was going to mop the floor with Harris, so he was suprised by her.
• The ABC anchors were an embarassment, since they never fact checked Harris. She wasn't at the capitol on Jan 6th, and they didn't call her out.
• Harris is clearly an airhead. ABC or someone connected to them clearly gave her the questions in advance.

They then invited on Sean Spicer, who re-affirmed that she was an "air head".

I had always heard that Fox news was pretty bad for accuracy. But to actually sit down and listen for 30-40 min was mind blowing.

It's literally propaganda. They are out and out lying to people, and making a ton of money in doing so. If you only listen to Fox, of COURSE you're all in on Donald Trump.

I'm all for free speech.

But at some point society needs to come to the realization that there's nothing OK about earning money by spreading lies.

At some point, I really think there should be some kind of law that prohibits peddling lies as a business model. You wanna lie your ass off? Go ahead. But you should not be allowed to make money by doing so.

There are...it's called libel and slander.

Fox News knows all about them after the Dominion voting machine settlement.

The problem is, when the lies are produced like a fire hose, there aren't enough lawyers in the world to fight those battles, and it becomes hard to prove damages in a lot of cases.

And who is the arbiter of what’s a lie or not? Boy the descent into “I crave authoritarianism” when you think it stops the other guy is quite a cliff.

Edit: this might be a good time for people to give themselves a refresher on what “free speech” means as well.

As mentioned above, libel laws are already a thing. But you really don't want to expand that to include all lies, not just reputationally damaging ones, because that's an easy way for any government to start silencing voices it doesn't want heard

What needs to come back in the US is the Fairness Doctrine. It's removal is what allowed Fox News to become a thing

As others have pointed out, there are laws against defamation, and there are also laws against inciting violence. Fraud is also a crime. So free speech absolutism is already not a thing and never has been, regardless of what the free speech absolutists would have you believe.

Like it or not, there is a line drawn somewhere (even in the most free societies) between allowed speech and disallowed speech. I think it should be drawn in a slightly different place from where it is now. Things like climate change, for example, (where there are entire mountain ranges of peer reviewed scientific journals backing the conclusion that climate change is real and due to human activities), should not be open to random ####wits spreading confusion and uncertainty on the topic.

Same thing with the big lie, that the 2020 election was supposedly stolen. No elected official should be allowed to spread that kind of rumor without providing evidence to back it up; continuing to spread that lie should be an complete disqualifier from ever running for office again.

As for the Barfleson segment regarding the debate, the problems I have with it are:

- saying Trump is a successful businessman, but failing to mention his 6 business bankruptcies and fraudulent charity and "university"
- saying he's a really sharp guy, without giving evidence of it
- didn't ask why Trump wouldn't have prepared for this debate given its obvious importance
- didn't mention that Trump told most of the lies in the debate, including the most egregious ones (hence the need for moderator fact checks)
- didn't mention what relevance it has that Harris wasn't at the capitol during the Jan 6 attack (hint: none)
- making a definitive statement about someone ("she's an airhead") without preceding it with "I believe" or "I think".
- saying that she got the questions in advance when there is zero evidence that she actually did


So I'm not sure what the solution is to all this. But I sure as hell know that it can't simply be allowing ####wits like Tucker Barfleson continue to hypnotize the American people with his nonstop stream of horse####.

MAGA evangelical leader accuses Kamala Harris of witchcraft during the debates

MAGA pastor and evangelical leader Lance Wallnau has accused Kamala Harris of using "witchcraft" during Tuesday's presidential debate.

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Wallnau claimed that the vice president used supernatural manipulation to gain the upper hand in her combative showdown with the former president.

"When I say 'witchcraft,' I am talking about what happened tonight. Occult-empowered deception, manipulation, and domination," Wallnau wrote early Wednesday morning, following the debate.

Wallnau, a prominent figure in the pro-Trump evangelical movement, has long portrayed the former president as a divinely chosen leader tasked with saving America from what he describes as a spiritual and political decline.

Harris' debate strategy and the behavior of the debate's two ABC News moderators, who fact-checked Trump five times, were not merely political tactics, Wallnau said, but part of a deeper, more sinister effort to deceive the public and control the debate's outcome.

He also accused the debate moderators of colluding with Harris' campaign, writing, "That's what ABC pulled off as moderators, and Kamala's script handlers set up the kill box. One-sided questions and fact-checking sealed the box. Witchcraft."

Later that evening, Wallnau expanded on his allegations, writing that Harris had been given free rein to spread misinformation without being challenged.

"She knew she could speak 20 lies about Trump and not be contradicted. That was the arrangement," he wrote in a second post. "And that's why I call it witchcraft, because it has the effect of planting and reinforcing thoughts in the mind of the listener that defiles perspective. This makes it easier to manipulate people."
