It took that long for a 1-year, 2-way, NHL Minimum deal to get done?
What? Did they have to translate it into French for him?

Yes. If he signs another 1-yr deal next year and hasn't played at least another 43 NHL games by the end of 2025-26, he'll become a Group VI UFA on July 1, 2026. Otherwise he's an RFA until at least the end of 2027-2028. (Assuming he keeps getting qualifying offers.)

1 year only feels off. Flames don't need to penny pinch anybody.

If he excels in the NHL this year, he's also not locking himself into additional years of mediocre pay.

Haggling over the AHL level of pay is my guess. I think he makes the NHL team thou so that's probably moot.

Bad habit to start throwing money around to guys that haven't earned it.

Doesn't matter. Just needs to stay healthy for a full season. Or 80 percent of it. That's all that really matters.
If he's going to carve out a full time roster spot.

Time will tell. If he gets sent down towards the camp with the wave of all the other cuts around the league, I expect he's more likely to sail on through than to get claimed. If he gets sent down later in the year -- well, that probably doesn't speak well to his performance up to that point. And doesn't increase his chances of getting claimed.
Hopefully he has a great camp and forces his way onto the roster, making waiver speculation a moot point. That's the best case for both parties. Hoping for his success.

I dont necessarily disagree, but he's missed a lot of time. I would not be surprised to see him start off in the AHL.

Definitely a make-or-break year for Pelletier. I think he's a great guy and I wish him all the success here, but I'm very skeptical at this point even if he stays healthy. He's a 5'9", 170-pound winger, not a very dynamic player, and doesn't really excel in any particular area of the game.
As for his ceiling, the best comparisons are probably players like Jiri Hudler or Tomas Tatar — undersized, average-skating wingers whose good hockey IQ and stickhandling skills allowed them to carve out decent NHL careers. The problem is that, at least in my impression, these types of players are being squeezed out of the league. He also doesn't seem to be a player well-suited for 4th line duties (think of Mangiapane as the opposite). It would be great if he proves me wrong, shines in the preseason, earns a top-6 spot, and has a great season. I just don't think it's a very realistic scenario.

Haven't seen yet. Last contract it was reportedly $70K. Might get six figures this year? Or $80K or more at least...

Still nothing official from the Flames. I wonder if they're finalizing the deals with Solo and Schwindt and waiting to announce all three at the same time?

I didn’t think he deserved a 1 way. Whether he did or not. Sure he’s been injured a lot. But he hasn’t proven anything yet.

Doesn't 1 year make it more likely he gets claimed off waivers?
