I would totally be onboard with future Calgary trades targeting 1st round picks a couple of years out from contending teams that look like they are hanging onto that status for dear life. Tampa has exhausted their futures, and are getting old. Pittsburgh is another team I would love to snag a future 1st from, as is Washington. Bruins? Toronto?
I think it is a gamble to be fair, but trading for 2026 top ten protected 1st round picks (which leaves it open for 2027) would be a decent gamble on some teams. So the proposed Andersson trade (which Sureloss pointed out probably doesn't have any legs) becomes much more interesting. I certainly think it is a little light, but I like the possibility that it provides. Much better than trading Andersson to a top 5 team at the deadline and knowing exactly that you are getting a late 1st.
Interesting ideas to talk about anyway until tomorrow's fun kicks-off with the tourney.

Treliving will finally pay the "extra tax" for who he is and trade for Andy at the deadline.

That site tends to just throw everything out there no matter how weak or suspect the rumour is, but the details do seem oddly specific when it comes to the amount being retained. It's usually better to be vague when Insiderrrs make up fake rumours.

That seems like terrible asset management on behalf of the Lightning.

So is moving Kadri to wing. Who is centering that line? Lombo?

Kuzmenko on defense is also pretty bold.

I've been told there's no truth to that immediate rumour.
With that said the Flames are listening on Andersson and he's made it known he wants to compete for a cup vs's long term rebuild but that's it.
I'd expect he's the next domino to go when he does in fact go, not sure that package swings the needle for Craig.
I should also add that I was told Craig is fully prepared to move a D-man before the season starts, there's a reason he brought in both Barry on PTO and signed Tinordi but nobody has asked to be traded.

I'm glad that Tampa rumour isn't true.
Trading two years of Andersson with his reasonable cap hit for a depth defenseman the same age, a 31 year old 4th line center, and 1st rounder that is not likely to be high is bad enough. Add in two years of salary retention at $1.6 million per, and it is beyond ridiculous. Especially when you consider there isn't urgency to make a deal right now.
I get trading Andersson sooner rather than later. Because his cap hit is so reasonable, trading him with more term left probably gets you a lot more than waiting, especially if retention is on the table.
It will be a sad day when that happens though.

So basically a late 1st for a retained Andersson. Hmm, just not sure about that right now.

With Andersons cap hit and retention, the market for his services expands greatly. There's a lot of teams that could take his cap as is already and take half of that away? It's a surefire return.

Actually, bold prediction:
Parekh earns a spot out of camp, making an Andersson trade super easy to facilitate.

In all likelihood though, TBL makes the playoffs, and the resulting return for Andersson is atrocious. Too risky - I would rather get known quantities than a hope and a prayer.
That proposal, as posted, is awful - Andersson will return significantly more than that. And Conroy has a year and a half to move him, so he can be patient

That NHL trade rumour site used to post trades from capfriendly forums. Andersson should get the Hronek return

Sure was! It makes me happy to see the lightning stumble a bit. It seemed like they couldn't do anything wrong for a while.
PS: I'm a fan of Vasilevski, Kucherov, and Point, but I have a hard time not holding some resentment after 04.

May depend a lot on his season. At the time of the Hronek trade, he appeared to be trending up. If Andersson has another down year, price might not be quite as high. Then again, GMs often overpay, especially for RHD.

He only has a 6 team no trade list. Flames have tons of options as a retained Ras is something every team would want. So this will probably be a big story around the team for however long it lasts.
But as much as I like him, this should be an exciting trade. An interesting cap dump, good prospect and a 1st seems reasonable.
