NY State for humanitarian reasons to help asylum seekers. The amount of money used was less than .5% of one year's budget and is helping people. I'm not seeing this as negatively affecting many people.

With all of the people that crossed the border, many municipalities are forced to re-allocate funds away from other priorities in order to deal with the influx of migrants who aren’t able to work for at least six months once entering the country.

Municipal governments having to divert funds for asylum seekers is seriously hampering people's lives?

Not to mention some of the security issues you’re seeing like gangs taking over apartment buildings in Aurora, Colorado.
|
That seems to be a mostly racist, exaggerated MAGA talking point.

Meanwhile, many residents of the apartment buildings in question are receiving death threats and fear for their safety, not from the Venezuelan gang but from would-be vigilantes who are threatening the residents with violence.

We learned the apartment buildings have been in terrible shape for years and still are. Many residents say they are not scared of gangs, instead saying they fear the owners of the complex. And local police departments say Tren de Aragua does not have an outsized role in metro area crimes, despite claims the gang has taken over the Denver area.

This was your quote
[I think that living in Canada, you don’t see some of the damage that those policies have done, so it’s easy to just write them off as “normal political speak”. In reality, when you look at something like the border and immigration crisis, that’s something that has had a notable impact on many people’s every day lives, so yes, the “normal political speak” is a big deal when it’s tangibly worsened people’s lives.]
After your long diatribe about Kamala sharing half truths, you give these examples for why Americans are suffering in a way that Canadians can't understand?

Is Stacey Abrams still active? I recall her speech and efforts for voter engagement seemed to help push Georgia blue in the last election. I would love to see Georgia be blue in consecutive elections.

So the Harris campaign hired Scaramucci as a debate coach. That's brilliant. He describes the experience on his podcast.

If she ran some kind of contest for all her fans that voted (a selfie with an I Voted sticker or something) with VIP tickets to her next concert as the prize, the election might actually be a landslide

No she won’t. She’s rich; why would she want the grief? Trump is rich but has a different agenda.

Careful what you wish for.
A lot of people wanted a 'Business Man' as President.
That hasn't gone so well.
I've said it before, we need Accountants in positions of power. Make sure public services are funded, affordable and sustainable and leave the social hand-wringing to someone else.

But they'd be so socially awkward in all of their interactions, which would be especially bad when speaking to other world leaders...

I’m sure he isn’t a net billionaire but I’d bet he’s a multimillionaire. He’s not super rich.

I doubt it, he is a bad businessman, is as dumb as a rock, what he has is a name he has sold but that is a hundred million or less over his lifetime, his big asset was his fathers land which he has leveraged but if he has any assets over his massive debt I would be surprised, he's just in debt to Russia who dont want money for it, they want influence

Saying that Harris is just doing what every politician does is certainly a valid point. You might be ok writing it off as normal behaviour. I’m not. Personally, I think we should hold elected officials to higher standards, particularly the leader of the most powerful country in the world. I don’t think guys like Obama did it anywhere close to the degree we see now, and his presidency wasn’t too far in the past.
|
I think the role of the other party in the debate is to challenge the framing of these issues. In a debate process that would help a person decide who to vote for you would see each party present their framing of the issue, then debate the improper framing of the other issue. So in the context of a debate I don’t think it’s writing it off as abnormal behaviour instead the debate process is designed to resolve these issues. This is different than lies which require moderator intervention as a fact check.
Here’s a fact check of Obama Romney.
Obama characterization of Romneys immigration search opinion seems more egregious then anything in the Harris list
https://amp.theguardian.com/world/20...ate-fact-check
Quote:
Claim
Obama accused Romney of supporting a draconian Arizona immigration law that allows police officers to ask people for identification if they suspect they have entered the United States illegally.
The facts
Romney said he had only singled out a portion of the law requiring employers to "e-verify" the legal status of employees as a model. A transcript of Romney's comment, made during a Republican primary debate, seems more or less support his version. During a discussion of immigration policy, he said: "You know, I think you see a model in Arizona. They passed a law here that says – that says that people who come here and try and find work, that the employer is required to look them up on e-verify."
However, immigration remains a sore point with Romney for many, particularly among Hispanic voters, because the former Massachusetts governor has advocated a "self-deportation" approach that aims to make undocumented immigrants uncomfortable enough to leave on their own.
|
Also he does more or less the identical “lie” on the jobs file
Quote:
Claim
Obama's administration has created 5 million jobs over the last 30 months
The facts
According to the US labour department, 4.5 million jobs have been created over that stated time period. But Obama neglected to mention that in the earlier months of his tenure in the White House, America lost almost as many jobs as it has since added to the economy. So he is a net job creator, but only by a sliver.
|
I certainly don’t see a difference between Harris and Obama in terms of truthiness. Have a read and let me know what you think.

You'd think Megyn Kelly of all people—having been sexually harassed by Roger Ailes in order to get and keep her former job at Fox News—would have cast aside the right-wing audience she had, knowing that the men in that audience probably thought Ailes nothing wrong. But nope! Right-wing grifters gonna grift. What a chud.
