I thought I did a write-up on him either this year or last, but I couldn’t find it….

Looking at the Roster break down. I looks like the Jets are bringing the most AHL players with at least 20+ games played. I think there are 9 (plus a couple with a bunch of ECHL games). Canucks have 7, Flames and Oilers 3.
Jets are brining a veteran "youngstars" team

I'm pretty much excited to see every single one of these guys play. I also like that the entire D lineup was acquired by Conroy.

I like how there's very little filler on the Penticton squad this time. All in-house talent.

That D corps is stacked. It's insane.

Unless I'm mistaken, I think everyone but McNamara has an NHL or AHL contract.

Or are at least Flames draft picks.

Radomsky had an AHL contract last year, but is currently a free agent.

Yeah. We typically think it’s going to be the teams that are rebuilding that should be better in this showcase but it’s often whichever team brings the oldest group of prospects. The team made up of mostly 20-21 year old 3-4th round picks will often be a better team at the Young Stars Classic than the one that is mostly 18-19 year old 1st and 2nd round picks.
And, of course, goaltending is even more voodoo in these conditions. Young goalies that are nervous and playing behind a completely in-cohesive defence tend to not be at their best.
It’s definitely a fun mini-tournament to watch though. Lots of interesting young players to see especially this year for the flames.

Last year vcr brought a bunch of seasoned pros and pounded the other teams. Since there’s no real guideline hopefully that doesn’t happen again this year. The Flames roster looks way younger than last year. But I guess it is to see what the prospects can do.

I know the games are being streamed live, but are they usually available to playback afterwards, not doing a 3am start this early in the season :-)

Doesn't hurt to fire off a quick email to the Flames requesting it. They can be quite accommodating at times. Especially given that keeping their fanbase happy is a priority for the next few years.
UPDATE: They'll likely be posted to YouTube... (h/t getbak)

Is the training at Winsport open? Anyone go? Can't imagine too much exciting stuff is happening, but never know.

It's definitely more of a fun tournament to see the young guys in action for the first time.
Still remember the year Poolparty and Chucky were there. Poolparty looked like a legit top end centre, and Chucky looked a little too reckless for his own good out there, and had bad skating. Who would have thought their career trajectories would be so different afterwards.
