I know, I just traded my PS5 in for $425 which is a best case scenario really (they sell these things for $580 used and still need to make some money) -- that doesn't even get you halfway to a Pro, lol.
It didn't make sense last time either IIRC but yeah no chance it's $99 this time around.
Last time the Pro was only $100 USD more than the Slim, so it was at least a close gap.
This time its:
$959.99 CAD for Pro
$649.99 CAD for Slim
So my guess is cheapest possible upgrade offer will be like $399 or something.
But if they did get it in that $200-$300 range then it's probably something I'd actually think about.
The point is he hopes they have a stupid offer that is a loss on their end...they do that often if you follow gamestop
They don’t actually ever do this, I follow GameStop quite closely and also worked full time there for years. But I forgot you’re the expert on everything so carry on, I guess…

They have had some questionable ones over the years for sure, so not sure I agree with you here.
They let me upgrade my launch PS4 to a PS4 Pro for $99
Can't remember the exact amount but pretty sure they gave me $425 for that same Pro to then upgrade to a PS5 at the time.
They had a pretty good PSVR2 trade in offer where I was able to trade a bunch of PS4/PS5/Xbox/Switch games valued at like $9-$10 to get the PSVR2 for free.

If you have some of the bonus values and time it right you can take advantage of GameStop trade in's for sure.
No doubt if you wait for the right promos and have the right stuff to trade in, you can work out some solid deals, but they'll never go upside down on trade values entirely. Even that one you posted, if you got $30 a game (probably more on some, but still) you're still needing to offload 20+ games to get it for 'free', which they then turn around and sell for at least $40 or $50 each, often more, and keep the entire margin on.
My main point being that even in the best case scenario promotion, the PS5 Pro is priced so much higher than the regular one that someone will still be left holding the bag for $400-500, which is nuts.
Yeah exactly, they sell used PS5 disc version for $579 so even if they went crazy and paid a trade in value the same price as they will sell it for you are still paying at least $400. Trade in some disc copy of games and forego the disc drive and you might get the Pro for $300. At this extreme range its getting to the point of consideration but chances of that price are slim and its already too much to pay for this upgrade.
I'm sure at that range console enthusiasts would probably take that deal so if they are ok with that then perfect but I will guarantee a much lower adoption rate of the PS5 pro than the PS4 pro which was already low enough.

Well you obviously don't follow close enough...they have had trade in deals so lucrative I have stopped by walmart on the way over and bought new games to trade in 5 mins later at a profit.
They have had deals where you could trade in an old dying 4+ year old console and $99 for the latest model. Heck they had double trade in value promos less than a year ago on games which made for easy profit off facebook marketplace.
Do they have a deal that makes it worthwhile this time? Maybe
That is why he said IF
They don't even test the console apart from turning it on not connected to a monitor...if you have an end of life console there is likely a deal to be had here.
When PS5 came out this is the deals they had on trade in
PS4 PRO – Get $375
PS4 SLIM 1TB – Get $345
PS4 SLIM 500GB – Get $325
I can assure you these were absolute steals for the customer, especially if the console had issues
If you trade in a PS4, how do you transfer your info to a new PS5? Is it all on the cloud (account) or do you need to back up some of it?
If you have PS+ and you have it all backed up to the cloud, everything will be easy so download.
If you don’t have PS+, I think the easiest way is a USB drive that you transfer all your save data onto and then transfer onto the PS5.
Outside of saves, everything else is either attached to physical discs or your PSN account (purchased digital games, trophies, etc) so none of that actually needs a transfer.

On that note, what's a fair price for a PS4 these days? FB market place is all over the place.
I have a PS4 Slim 500gb with two controller in great condition. I'd guess it has less than 100 hours of game play. Gamestop offers $80 for the console and $20 for a controller with a $50 bonus if you trade in for a new console. Take the trade-in or try to sell privately?

With the $50 bonus (if you're getting a new console), I'd take that deal over a private sale. Sadly, with the small hard drive and not being a PS4 Pro, I'm not sure you'd get $150 for it privately.
