It's a kick in the teeth, but then again, under Gio's leadership, did the Flames do anything? Did the Leafs when he went there? The problems with both teams were way beyond him, especially the Leafs, but it's not like Gio ever led anyone there, as disrespectful as that may sound.
Played 1128 NHL games and only 41 in the post season - and never more than 11. Obviously as I said there were bigger reasons, but nothing there screams that you need him to show the next generation.
I can't see how you can justify putting a player out there in his 40s when there are so many prospects knocking at the door. I also doubt he would have much value at the the TDL. I can see Barrie at least having some value.
If he wants to get into management after his playing career, I think it would be good if they could take him in as an understudy if they think he might have an aptitude for it.

I don't see any room for Gio on the ice, and the front office is full too. That said, I would love it if he got a position in management here.
I think he would make a fantastic coach. Of course, not every former player wants that… it’s a bigger commitment and takes longer IMO most of the time to develop into an NHL coach. But his combination of defensive and offensive instincts along with his leadership could make him a fantastic coach. Add the unique route he took to the NHL (undrafted) and I think he could be an awesome coach one day.

Giordano's agent on 960 says he tried to sell Calgary on the idea of Giordano coming back and mentoring the kids and then getting traded to a contender at the deadline. Said Gio has interest in going to management after retiring as well and tried to sell the idea of both Jarome and Gio joining the management team with Conroy all former captains.
Conroy didn't seem interested according to the agent
Not sure why Conroy would want that type of competition.
And it seems like what the Oilers have done in the past.
As someone who wasn't drafted and then peaked mid-thirties, and as someone who excels with conditioning, I would think Gio is actually quite qualified to consult on topics involving player development.

True. But I'm not sure there's room for him with Gelinas and Stone already on the player development staff.

Traded to a contender at the deadline?
I guess you don’t get what you don’t ask for, but Gio ol’ buddy ol’ pal… it’s time.

I'd take Gio somewhere in a management or coaching role (AHL) in a heartbeat.
But there is no need to have him on the roster. Maybe if somebody were to get hurt in camp or you end up moving Andersson or Weegar. But even then somebody like Barrie is a better option.
I have no issues bringing back Gio to the management side of the business or coaching. I think his work ethic and desire to win would be a valuable asset. I hope Conroy hasn’t shut the door on that option.
What has Giordano accomplished to go into management? At least Iginla has been an advisor with the team for a few seasons. Or do the Flames just want to follow in the Oilers footsteps.
Dedicated coaches and managers find their own opportunities. Does Giordano think he's above starting out in the OHL? Maybe he should pack up and spend a season in Russia.

Imo Gio should start small and coach in the OHL or something before getting other roles. I think he would be good as a coach rather than a management position. I bet he would move up fairly quick too.
