Any advice for teaching a nine-year-old how to play chess? We’ve had one game and I basically threw the game. I had him mated in six moves but explained his mistake and didn’t do the mate. He had a slight advantage on points (5 for a rook, knight 3, etc.) but lost interest. His moves made no sense, moving a piece then two moves later back to the same position.
I get that he’s only nine. He’s playing online against a computer. His ninth birthday is actually Sunday and I’d like to get him his first chess set. Maybe he’d be best off playing the computer opponent for a few weeks so he can gain experience. Or maybe have him watch his dad and play a game explain strategy. He’s bright so he’ll be good - eventually.

Probably check out the Chess thread.
One thing I discovered early is...I suck at Chess. I'm just really bad.

Do all sizes of Raisin Bran have 2 scoops of raisins? I saw a 450g box and 1.2kg box at Coop both advertising the same thing. Do the scoop sizes vary?

Star Wars Battle Chess was pretty cool. It was a golden era for games. Lucas Film, Sierra, Apogee..

Wrong equation.
CO2 is mostly liquid in the canister at the Vapour pressure. So the problem with overfilling and then raising the temperature isn’t the change in vapour pressure due to temperature.
Instead if there is no gas space for the liquid to expand into the pressure rise will be driven by liquid thermal expansion. At that point the pressure rise equation is essentially dT*alpha/compressibility of CO2.
This is one of the two common mistakes among people who refill the camping butane / propane mix canisters.
One mistake when re- filling those is not understanding that the pressure in the partially filled canister is the vapour pressure of the mixed gas. So people will say they won’t fill it up all the way if they use propane instead of butane/propane mix. Since Propane as a higher vapour pressure as soon as you start filling you bulge the canister.
The second is the above mistake of assuming the pressure in then canister when overfilled is driven by the vapour pressure of the fluid as opposed to liquid thermal expansion. 10 degrees is easily sufficient to over pressure the butane cylinders. Now with CO2s vapour pressure being about 6MPA you will have more design margin on the canisters but I’d still be very concerned with overfilling.

I don't understand why the raisin question comes up so often for people who like raisin bran. I hate raisins, but if I liked raisin bran, I'd be buying extra raisins to top up every bowl I ate.
The raisin contemplation and calculation is meaningless. Just buy extra and give'er every bowl. Or are people worried they'd be consuming some type of Special K mixture instead if they did that?

I know this might come as a shock, but I do have a Star Trek 3D chess board.
No. I do not know how to play it.

Why? Are they sugar coated and drier than regular store bought raisins or something?

They have a coating that stops them from sticking to stuff (flakes, other raisins) and yes, are drier.
