So lost in the shenanigans of the Green Line being cancelled by 15 Going On 50 Dreeshan were all the hateful proposals that came out last night:

And not a single piece of evidence was shared in each of those policy proposals.

So ya, this trash is a priority? Is this what we elect governments for? What an embarrassment, these are purported adults.

This is probably a really dumb question but does anyone know, can the City of Calgary sue the province for damages caused by the pulling of funding after committing them and then Calgary undergoing already millions in cost presuming the funding was there?

Obviously probably strategically a bad idea all things considered but I was just more curious if any actual liability does exist. When the province guarantees a town or city funding do they sign a contract like a bank or lender would?

Just what we need, more taxpayer dollars wasted suing each other. Now, suing the UCP? That I could get behind.

Might not be a waste if you recover the damages and secondly would set a precedent on promised funds.

Would Calgary outlay the project capital if it knew the funding was going to be pulled? No? Sounds like cause for liability in most settings if a contract is in place.

But I am more curious about how the mechanics of all this actually work in practice. I understand it’s never happen.

I am quite shocked they limited it to just business use and didn't say for personal use as well.

I'm betting they intended to, with business being mentioned twice, I bet that first one was supposed to read as Personal. They just can't write gud.

Probably.

I have been around a lot of people who said this is Alberta we only vote blue.

Don't know what they are voting for, but just vote blue.

A bunch of morons.

This is eerily reminiscent of actual Luddites trying to outlaw the cotton gin. PROTECT OUR RIGHT TO BE INEFFICIENT AND POLLUTE!

These ####s don't believe in a free market economy at all!

Well, I guess they're not all bad....

Just mostly. Like 99.999% bad. More than enough to vote them the f--k out.

I think the problem is that the city changed the terms (quite significantly) on their end, first.

Our pro-business UCP government, folks.

Calgary Construction Association Dismayed by Further Delays to Green Line LRT Due to Provincial Funding Pull, Warns of Risk Precedent for Future Provincially Funded Projects

https://cgyca.com/industry-updates/f...-future-provi/

Quote:
Moreover, the Provincial Government’s decision to unilaterally claw back funding for the Green Line LRT sets a concerning precedent for all future infrastructure projects across Alberta. This move sends a clear signal that no project, regardless of its scope or significance, is safe from unexpected funding cuts. The resulting uncertainty introduces a huge element of risk for contractors and businesses involved in provincial projects, undermining confidence in the stability and reliability of government commitments. If this trend continues, it could jeopardize future investments, delay critical infrastructure developments, and hinder economic recovery efforts across the province.

And lo, the people did marvel at the roar of the internal combustion engine, for it was a mighty sound that stirred their hearts. As the chariots of steel did race upon the earth, the thrumming of pistons was as the voice of many waters, a symphony of power and might. And they did rejoice, for in the sound they found joy, a testament to the works of their hands and the ingenuity bestowed upon them. Thus, the sound of the engine was beloved among them, a reminder of the dominion they were given over the earth.
