Not really. Signing a top 5 forward in the league is never bad news for any team.
And if you go back over the past two years I have consistently said I thought the league would allow compliance buyouts and that that would be the way that the Flames get out from under the Huberdeau contract.

We will see how many years the Oilers contend during this contract. Giving a 30 year old a 5.5M raise wont make the team better. The oldest team in the league.

I wonder if there is any chance that McAvi has told the Oilers that he won't re-sign so they have gone to Neon Leon and said: "You're our guy, time for you to be #1"? And that's how this contract came about.

Mcdavid can get his next year. Their window is closing which is utterly hilarious that they’ve wasted the prime of both of those guys. Everything went right last playoffs health wise and really they still weren’t good enough. Their backup aside from the top 2 is so bad. Their bottom 6 is old and not scaring anyone. Better hope they can be carried by pissy and Mclottery. Cause Hyman isn’t getting younger. Oldest team in the league.
I mean good on them for keeping their star. But where is this discount everyone said he would take to stay ??

You take McDavid off that team and then check out Drysaddles numbers. I highly doubt he's in the top 5 forward conversation anymore.

Agreed. But I bet that the Oilers and Mr. Draisatl don't.

I hear that Draisaitl and McDavid went out to celebrate Pissy's new contract.

I see it differently. I think the Coilers know the only way McDavid would ever re-sign would be if Drysaddle was sticking around too. So Drysaddle held all the chips to begin with.

This is no good. I open twitter and I see this:
Leon Draisaitl has 850 points in 719 career games with the #Oilers. If he plays the next 9 seasons in #Edmonton could he surpass Wayne Gretzky’s 1669 points as an Oiler?
We can laugh about it, but I don’t think the unwashed know how old pissy will be by the mid point of the contract.

In order to do that, he would have to play at the same PPG for the next 9 seasons as he has to date (highly unlikely, as they go until he is 37) and play an average of 77 games per year.
I'll take the under for $1,000

I think he probably ends around 1500, 300 points behind McDavid and the duo become 1st and 3rd on the list of career points with no championship.

You mean a washed up UFA that's received little interest over the summer has decided working in Canada is better than not working at all? That's pretty shocking.
