So in the past the kid made comments about a school shooting, FBI tracked him down and the local cops interviewed the kid and the parents. Not enough evidence so they didn't prosecute. They move and the red flag on the kid gets lost in the shuffle. At this point nobody at the new school knows about his past, only the parents know.
Father decides to buy the kid a gun for a holiday present? Seriously?
The father should be charged with every count of accessory to murder at the least. If you know your kid is a potential danger to others at 14 years old how the F do you go out and buy him an AR-15? Yes I know, murica

Those charges are a lot more substantial than what you were asking for. I don't know what they could do more from a prosecution standpoint.

I guess these are the times in which we live, where school shooting with only 2 dead doesn't really move the needle.
2 dead and 6 injured (2 life threatening) at Wisconsin private christian school. The shooter, a 15 year old female, took her own life.
