Honestly, it makes me feel a little better for Johnny's widow and kids knowing that one of his best friends is there to help take care of them through all of this. If I were in Mony's shoes, the choice to sign and move where he did would make perfect sense now more than ever.

I just read Lanny’s post on the gram and just felt like I got hit by that ton of bricks all over again. Seeing or remembering all these big moments and big goals from Johnnys time here used to bring me joy to watch and remember… and I hope that one day they will once again; but right now the emotion is unbelievably raw; I love this forums so much and I’m hugging you all right now along with the Gaudreaus.

Over $115K, in the 4 hours since the GFM was set up. There's an anon $10K donation in there, holy moly, that's amazing.

Worst part of this is. I will never see a highlight or clip of the god with happiness. It will forever be sadness and regret and anger.

This is very high profile, it might just make a few people think twice.

They won’t. Getting to their destination quicker is more important. I’ve all but given up on road riding because of cell phone addicts, damn drunks have always been out there I guess.
This is awful. Two men, one will have a kid that never meets their Dad. Johnny’s will have no memory of him. My daughter is a hockey fan because of Gaudreau. We both have jerseys. I feel ill for the family.

$1,300 seems like a perfect number.
And Adam Fox is making a case for getting at least a shift where he doesn’t get booed at the dome.

What happens to Gaudreaus contract? Does it all get paid out? Is there a life insurance?

Hopefully. His wife and kids don't need the burden of worrying about money too.

Still bothersome seeing the headlines. I woke up to a TSN alert Gaudreau dead at 31. No mention of being murdered by a drunk driver.
You see a headline like that and you wonder wtf happened. ####ing garbage.

I'd be surprised if Meredith and the kids stay in Columbus. They will likely move closer to family for the support.

When a player dies, I don't think the contract would get paid out directly, but his beneficiaries would get life insurance benefits, which all players have. And then a high earning player would likely have their own supplemental life insurance on top of that to get over the maximums from the standard NHL policies ($15M I think?) for accidental death.

Minimum coverage from the NHL & NHLPA is in the CBA. $1M life insurance, plus accidental death insurance of 1x their annual base salary (up to a maximum of $15M); in Johnny's case, $7.75M.

No, the contract won’t be paid out by the club. Hopefully he has some sort of insurance. Of course the driver’s insurance will pay but they probably have a max that won’t equal the potential earnings.

I’m in complete shock. I’ve been staring at my Gaudreau jersey all day. I just can’t believe it.
