There's a bunch of race car drivers, like Senna and Villeneuve, but of course, that seems different.

I watched F1 growing up with my dad. Senna was an absolute tragedy as well. The difference clearly being that profession and fine line of racing comes with the inherent risk.

Just wanted to say that, having lost my wife just prior to the 2014-15 season, watching the Flames was a nice break from reality and JG was a big part of that. My son and I have matching JG jerseys and now being a father of two young children I couldn't imagine my wife having to raise those children alone.
My sincerest condolences go out to the Gaudreau family, his wife and to his children. I have read and heard nothing but good things regarding Guy and now the poor man has the nightmare of burying his two sons. That poor family.

Biking is actually my second favorite activity next to dancing. I bike far distances a lot and live pretty close to one of the beaches in Cleveland that I go to quite a bit. I got hit once by an older man when I was biking towards the beach at a corner. Lucky for me it wasn't a big collision and I didn't get any severe injuries and only the front wheel of my bike was damaged.
The man who hit me paid to get the wheel fixed. He said he expected me to be angrier at him and I said back: "Look, I can always get a new bike, I can't replace my life. I'm just glad I didn't get badly hurt". This tragedy just reminds me how close I could've been to get hit seriously and how fragile life really is

The more and more you hear about Johnny and how devoted he was to his family makes me appreciate his time here even more. 1 more year of college and he could have signed at home. He chose to come here which was obviously a much harder decision than I ever gave him credit for and a testament to his character imo.

If Monahan just retired it honestly wouldn't surprise me at all. He must be shattered.

Would love to see a #13 patch worn on our jerseys this year. A way to honour Johnny in the immediate while giving his family time for a full jersey retirement down the road

I can appreciate thank the insiders stayed quiet on this last night.
Pat and Frank were talking last night shortly after this all happened (Frank was the one who told Pat it was true) - the hockey world knew, but no reported it out of respect for the family.

I've been in a fog all day. I was useless in the gym, made mistakes at work, and my senses were frighteningly dulled on my bike commute.
I can't believe I have been hit so hard by this. At this age, celebrity deaths peak at "that's sad" for me and I move on.
Maybe it's his guileless personality or feeling a bit closer to him with his family being so involved as fans. The skittles, Gatorade, cannon dodging, and the big smile on his face when Marchand beaked him from the box...all such wholesome memories.
He didn't go out doing something reckless or ######y...he was just riding his bike with family.
Ugh.
Anyways, living in Vancouver, there was brief chatter here of the shock and sadness, but nothing that could validate how I felt. I'm so grateful for CP today so I could mourn with you all and try to make sense of this.
Miss you JH13.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Columbus offered to trade him or even offer him a chance to mutually end the contract if he was uncomfortable going forward. He probably will instead stay with them and be a leader on that team to help them through this but I would completely understand if he chooses something else.
Really tough hearing that interview from a couple days ago where he mentions raising his son alongside Gaudreau raising his son. Heartbreaking.

Don't feel bad about not being on it. I think anybody plugged in and living in this city since 2014 has to be pretty shook by the tragic nature of this.
I postponed my plans for today. It sucked to do but I'm definitely not "there" today either.
Driving around bicyclists brought a heightened sensitivity too. Had a couple of mutual waves/acknowledgements with them and I think it was no coincidence.

Just awful all the way around. Oilers fan here obviously, but I told my wife and daughter this morning and they were both stunned. It's obvious how much he meant to the community here and the impact he had. Nothing but sympathy for all who cared about him. Brutal.
