For Musk, it makes sense from a business standpoint to support Trump and get on his good side if he wins. Trump has shown disdain for electric vehicles. Musk knows that his money can buy Trumps service. He knows that if Trump wins, it is better to be on his good side.
If Harris wins, it doesn't matter and nothing really changes for him.

What makes you think this is about business? Musk seems like he's a true believer in the creepy ideology that a lot of the Silicon Valley tech bro freaks are into. They're the ones that got Vance on the ticket because he represents what they believe in.

Trump now says he's on a mission from God. Someone please get him a shrink!
Quote:
Discussing the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, last month, he was asked by Dr Phil McGraw why his life was spared.
“I mean, the only thing I can think is that God loves our country, and he thinks we're going to bring our country back. He wants to bring it back. It's so bad right now,” Trump replied.
Quote:
“It has to be God. I mean, how can you say it's luck when it's, you know, 20 million to one? I mean, it's just not possible that I was in that position. It's the only position where that bullet could have missed.”
Asked by Dr Phil if he believed that “God’s hand” had played a part in his survival, the former president replied: “I do.”
He continued: “If I win that, that would really serve to say that if there's some incredible power up there that wanted me to be involved in saving [the US] – and maybe it's more than saving the nation. Maybe it's saving the world.”
I wonder if someone on the Biden side set up this early debate to expose the President and try and get him to step down? It seemed odd at the time that they wanted to debate so early.
I think it’s more likely that the Dems waited until Trump was all in then flipped to Kamala. Trump claims to have spent $100 million attacking Biden then had to change course. If intentional by the Dems, brilliant move.
I have two girls (12 & 13). I've kept my Canadian citizenship and we have plans to move to Canada if we need to. We'd lose our business by doing so (I'd be able to keep my job) but our girls safety is our #1 priority.
I assume “safety” includes autonomy over their bodies. Giving control over to government should scare the crap out of American women (everyone).

No way in hell they embarrassed the sht out of Biden as part of a larger strategy. His debate performance was so god awful it forced their hand to make the change.

The only strategic move they made there was to delay the switch to Kamala until after the RNC so that it would kill their news cycle and put the assassination attempt out of people's minds as the new stuff - eg, Biden's announcement, Kamala's first appearance as candidate, Biden's address in the oval, the VP pick discussion, etc, all took over.

I get your point (bolded) but see it differently than Musk and other super rich. Musk just wants to pad his wealth, and to he11 with the destruction of the world and the U.S. democracy. Does he need more money and is it worth the price? It wouldn’t be for me. Musk is a terrible human being.

At the time, I was wondering what would have happened if Biden sent a tweet that he was dropping out the moment Trump took the stage at the RNC. That would have been interesting to see.

Why did they want the early debate then, I wonder? It doesn't really make any sense unless you consider that someone in Biden's camp wanted him exposed.

Well, they both agreed to it, so they both wanted it early. There could be a million reasons...dems hoping Trump does/says something terrible, dems want their message out, etc. I just think the risk of what happened with Biden looking terrible was a huge risk for the dems if they knew that's what would happen. I don't think it makes any strategic sense to have deliberately put themselves at risk so severely if they knew that's how the debate was going to play out. Nobody could have predicted the momentum Harris would have. She was super unpopular just weeks ago.
Biden is respected in his party, and he has given his whole life to this thing. I highly doubt they banded together to embarrass him so he would step down.

I think it's more likely they saw him going downhill and thought he might be more effective the earlier the debate was held. If they do one and he wins they can just refuse to do any more and he has a solid chance of getting elected. I don't think they expected him to decline so fast - they definitely didn't embarrass him on purpose.
they didn't embarrass him on purpose, but I have no doubt that "if he bombs, we'll still have time to make a switch" was part of agreeing to such an early debate.

I would think the simplest answer is probably correct...Occam's Razor and all that.
Biden's polling numbers were poor, and he thought he easiest way to revitalize his campaign would be to debate Trump and show how he compared in terms of competence, as well as dispelling any issues around his age and energy. He did get a nice boost of support after his State of the Union address where he did show quite a bit of energy and sharpness.
The problem was, and likely still is, Biden's hubris. He didn't (and probably still doesn't) see the same thing everyone else sees...he got old, and the aging was rapid and noticeable in a bad way. He miscalculated, thinking he still had it in him to win the election by convincing people he wasn't old. Everyone could see it but him, which is why it took so much time and effort to convince him to step aside.
And thank god he did...
I say that as a pretty big fan of him.

Getting old sucks, sometimes people don't realize it and don't want to hear it.
HIs family didn't do him any favours.
Thankfully it worked out in the end.
