I wonder why Star Trek TPTB aren't revisiting the TNG-DS9-VOY timeline. Star Wars has been going back to the same well every few months for decades (lets just not talk about quality for a second.)

An academy show from that era would be great, there are a thousand stories they could tell, and a million tie-ins.

Yeah. Could you imagine an Academy show during the Dominion War?

That is like an endless goldmine of material.

You're in training to be a scientist or an explorer and somehow Starfleet has to turn to you and say:

"We'll get back to that, but first we've got to kick some ass."

I think academy done in LD timeframe would work perfectly too. Allows for favourite oldies to still swing in for the occasional cameo. You could follow the first romulan in star fleet through the academy.

You could even go dark trek and make the romulan student uncover a section 31 plot but no one will believe her because conniving romulan, then make it a story about racism...

Completed my rewatch of Deep Space 9, Season 6!

The season starts with the Federation having abandoned Deep Space 9 to the Dominion under Weyoun, and the Cardassians under Dukat and Damar. The Dominion spends time trying to deactivate the cloaked mines.

Kira sees occupation under very different terms than her first one, comfortable in her role as Chief Bajoran. The suicide by a vedek jolts her back to reality, and she forms the station’s resistance, along with Rom, Odo, and Jake.

Odo wavers when the female founder pays him a visit and links with him (in more than one way), resulting Rom getting captured and slated for execution, saved at the last minute by Quark and Leeta, of all people.

The Federation retakes the station, just in time for Worf and Dax to get married. Worf also reunites with his son, Alexander (now played by Canadian Marc Morden), and blows a mission just to save Jadzia’s life, which gets him in trouble.

Kira has a romance with Mirror Bareil, breaks it off with Shakaar, and finally ends up with Odo. She also uses an orb to find out that her mother had become Dukat’s lover, abandoning her family for the comforts on the station under the first occupation.

Quark not only helps the resistance, but turns into a female to help Zek regain power from Brunt, in one of Star Trek’s most cringiest episodes (imo). The message would have been better if not handled so poorly. He also thinks he’s getting rich when Morn is reported dead, and has to rescue his mother in one of Star Trek’s most hilarious episodes “The Magnificent Ferengi).”

O’Brien has to deal with losing Molly on a trip to Bajor, only to find her as 18 and feral. He also goes undercover to infiltrate the Orion syndicate, and retakes a captured Defiant when shrunk, along with Bashir and Dax.

Bashir gets his first meeting with the Brat Pack, and also has to deal with his feelings for Dax when she and Worf first get married, and then again when the happy couple announce that they want to have a baby, although he recovers to assist her medically.

Jake has to handle being in the resistance, then risking losing his father again to visions from the Prophets, and he and Nog run into a bunch of cadets piloting a ship and thinking they are invincible, until the Dominion proves them wrong.

As for Sisko, he retakes the station, deals with more visions from the Prophets, has to battle Starfleet who is not happy about him being the Emissary, getting stranded with a very psychotic Dukat, and has to watch a pah-wraith control Jake.

He also has one of Star Trek’s most interesting episodes, “In the Pale Moonlight,” where he fakes evidence to get the Romulans into the war, and then decides he is okay with Garak assassinating a Romulan senator, as long as that goal is accomplished.

Sisko’s other most interesting episode is “Far Beyond the Stars,” where he as visions of himself as black science-fiction writer in 1950’s America. It is exceptionally well-acted and well-written, and is one of my personal favourites.

The season ends tragically, with Sisko ignoring the prophets warning to leave the station, which results in Jadzia getting killed by a pah-wraith inhabited Dukat. Sisko then leaves the station for earth, taking his baseball with him, a symbol that he may not be coming back.

Deep Space Nine’s wonderful band of background characters continues, including Garak, Zek, Ishka, Dukat, Damar, Weyoun, Brunt, Nog, Kai Winn, the female Founder, Joseph Sisko, Leeta, and Martok. We meet several new ones, including Admiral Ross, Section 31’s Sloan, and then the hologram Vic Fontaine.

The run of fantastic guest stars continues as well; Gabrielle Union as a Klingon, William Sadler, Phil Morris again, Iggy Pop as the greatest Vorta ever, Brock Peters, Leslie Hope, Paul Popowich, Stephen McHattie, Gregory Itzin, and Nick Tate.

Deep Space Nine continues to go places that no one thought Star Trek would ever go. But as great as some of these episodes are, the season gets an asterisk because of 2 of the most divisive things – the first as Section 31, which continues on to this day with the reported new series. And the second was turning the pah-wraiths into an evil force, which many had an issue with, leading into the final season.

But when Deep Space 9 was on its game, there was no finer Star Trek.

I would love that.

We're cancelling the classes on diplomacy and science, you are now going to take extra time on the phaser range and loading photon torpedoes. We're at war people.

Then a protest breaks out on the streets against the war, and the cadets are send in to quell the violence in the name of the Federation.

This weeks guest instructor is General Martok, he's going to teach the 60 ways to kill a man, and advanced neck breaking.

In the novelization of Star Trek III, Saavik was half Romulan/half Vulcan. She was hiding it from Starfleet, but told David. An established character, who was never fully fleshed out on screen, with just a tonne of backstory to fill in.

Alex Kurtzman is Star Treks Kennedy. Just clueless as a storyteller, and wasting storylines.

So. What are we doing for Star Trek Day tomorrow?

Quote:
On September 8, 1966, Gene Roddenberry introduced audiences to a world that championed diversity, inclusion, acceptance, and hope. This Star Trek Day join us on our global mission to "take the chair and make an impact" in our communities.

I propose we start up the Bell Riots, we missed that anniversary but theres no time like the present.

If you cant riot now, when can you?

I watched an 11 part series on Paramount called the Center Seat: 55 years of Star Trek. I quite enjoyed it. Some of it was a bit repetitive but otherwise it had a lot of good interviews with writers and producers and actors. They didn’t have most of the big name actors but I was OK with that. I’ve heard more than enough from Shatner.

Yeah, I watched that a while back, but I really liked it as well, really goes through the history of the show.

Because "For The Uniform" happened in Season 5, and we never saw Sisko suffer any repercussions or even express any guilt for what he did and caused there. So while I appreciated the moral examination in this one, there could have been only a single outcome, and all the hand-wringing he did was just for show.

This episodes plot/issue needed to proceed For The Uniform for it to have really hit.
