q-pid is a ####ing masterpiece and i won't stand for this.
The episode stands the test of time if just for that full-on marriage-ruining make-out between patrick stewart and jennifer hetrick at the start of the episode. That's some steamy stuff, boys and girls. Vash is a little self-centered though. All about him not talking about her to his friends and not a single "sorry you got turned into a borg." smh
i am NOT a merry man!

She serviced his special implant.

SNW could of survived it if it was an internal only, just us vs this week's space stuff episode. But it went fleet wide and into Klingon history as well. And then the Klingons were doing Kpop? Horrible horrible horrible. Killed my interest in the show entirely and I haven't had any interest to come back to it.
DId you mean Allamarain (Sisko and the others trapped in the game)? The Calamarain were the misty aliens that tried to go after Q in TNG when he lost his powers.

I get that Chakotay was a ####ty representation of indigenous culture
That was because the indigenous expert they hired was neither indigenous nor an expert

Then you get to juxtapose that with another society that has eliminated economics. It was very interesting.
Always wondered how Starfleet officers, who had no money, could afford to eat and drink and use holosuites at Quark's.

Starfleet would provide pay to officers/people employed by them when they were stationed places that had currency based exchange.
Star Fleet officers literally cheated and probably replicated money.
Can you imagine how much inflation was caused on planets with currency when Star Fleet opened a base and flooded the economy with billions in phony money?
Also going back to Quark, A big part of the reason why that character works is because Armin Shimmerman is just a amazing character actor. He's played some just iconic roles for me and he takes over shows.
Quark, Principal Schneider in Buffy (just watch Band Canday),

Holy cow, never knew this!

Star Trek: Voyager's producers decided to make Chakotay's Native American background a key part of the character's personality. To get a better understanding of Native American heritage, the Voyager producers enlisted writer and journalist Jamake Highwater, a nationally recognized Native American authority who wrote books and produced TV series about his supposed heritage. Highwater was eventually exposed as a fraud; born Jackie Marks, he was of Eastern European descent and had no ties to the Cherokee people as he had long claimed.
Just finished watching "The Sound of Her Voice". I was really impressed with that one, which helped to wash away the taint of some of the stinkers lately, especially yesterday's episode, "Time's Orphan".

Why wouldn't you?
Its like the Starfleet Comm badges, I think it was in Time's Arrow where the precious metals and Gold in the Comm badges was incredibly valuable but to the uninitiated but like 'meh' to Starfleet officers. "You want it? We've got a storage room stacked with these things!"
It reminds me of an article I read ages ago about examining other worlds via telescope or charting Asteroids etc. The Galaxy is immense. The sheer volume of Natural Resources available is effectively inconceivable. The only thing that drives value is scarcity and the only reason for scarcity is because we cant get to those resources.
I read a report many, many years ago that DeBeers has enormous vaults around the world stacked to the brim with Diamonds. They've got tons and tons.
But releasing that amount of supply would crash the market. So they hoard it creating a false scarcity.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
I agree that picard was overall awful and ruined some great elements of my favourite characters. S3 included sucked. Not as bad as the other 2 but the bar was subterranean. Disco being the worst trek of all time and running concurrently was probably a godsend as well. But man, what a disaster.
I was on a reddit thread yesterday where people were naming top 10 sci fi properties. Startlingly few people were listing Trek. I am concerned that a couple more flops could really drive a nail into the franchises future.
And I was complaining earlier on in thread about the short seasons; apparently the directors have asked for more per season but the damn studio declines... I hate modern TV production. https://redshirtsalwaysdie.com/posts...s-01j5xq3qy5sb

I look forward to the day where I just tell A.I. to make me new TNG episodes, and I get to watch as many as I like for the rest of my life.
Apparently Star Trek Academy (the show no one was asking for) has officially started production. Produced by Kurtzman and sounds like it takes place after Discovery so I'm not particularly optimistic about it.
