Lots of them are conscripted from remote areas that don't even have ethnic ties to western Russia and/or from very poor areas and backgrounds.
Lots are ignorant Ivan's too though.

I pretty much copy and paste my response every time the question comes up about why russians aren't freaking out more. The absolute smartest thing the kremlin has done in this conflict is largely isolate Moscow and SPB from conscripting their young males. Some have left on their own accord, but there is still a relatively large population to pick from. The kremlin undoubtedly knows that in order to avoid chaos at home, it's best to send undesirables to the front. Prisoners, slanty-eyed asian looking men from Siberia, the poor, etc. Young men from exactly those 2 cities will be the very last people conscripted, and I don't think it will ever happen. When the time comes to start pulling everyday young men from those 2 cities is the day the war ends and russia goes home. As cruel as it sounds, it must be men from exactly those 2 cities that get sent to the front and home in body bags before any kind of public rumblings get made. The kremlin knows this. They are sacks of ####, but they aren't stupid when it comes to those 2 places. They will literally send every single man from the east, every foreign fighter they can find, every last prisoner before they look into those 2 cities.
I honestly think russia would resort to the nuke card before they even think of pulling men from there, and that card isn't going to happen. They know that without those men, there is no russia.

Under equipping and ill equipping the Military is a Canadian Tradition as old as time...
For it's size the Canadian's in both world wars were well equipped, and even if they ran out of ammo they were bad assed and would kill you with a pencil.

I'm fairly familiar with the skillset of the Canadian soldier.
However to say they were well equipped is revisionist history.
But back to killing Ivan

Russian soldiers who have refused to fight have reported being beaten and handcuffed to trees for days without food and water, while their commanders profit from bribes given by relatives desperate to avoid their loved ones being sent into suicidal 'meat wave' assaults. https://twitter.com/user/status/1826304844887413100
The drone strike Ukrainian defenders carried out on Moscow tonight was probably as ineffective as the first time British defenders bombed Berlin in June 1940. https://twitter.com/user/status/1826124528273281260
These nightly operations are far more than routine—they’re calculated annihilation.
SitRep - 22/08/24 - Attacks on Marinovka air base An overview of the daily events in russias invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine attacked Marinovka airbase and sunk a ferry filled with fuel in port Kavkaz. https://twitter.com/user/status/1826761779369873632
Crimea doesn’t have fuel reserves for more than one week. They could be forced to use the railway part of the bridge which is still not repaired.
What's amazed me is the rate of innovation and how many new weapons Ukraine has been fielding. This new jet powered drone missile "Palyanitsa" that was used by Ukraine to hit Voronezh is nuts. 100KM+ range and a large Voronezh ammunition depot went poof.
I wonder if the Ukraines have the reserves and equipment in place to counter strike against these troop movements?
I do have to worry that they risk spreading themselves too thin.
Even if Ukraine loses a little more territory to the Russian occupiers, I think the Kursk invasion could be a good investment. The more turmoil they can cause in Russia, the better. If the Russians are forced to do more mobilizations, it could cause more objections to the war. As more Russians see the war coming home, they might become more resistant to it. Damaging supply lines in Russia before the winter should also make it harder for Russia to fortify in the occupied areas. And of course, redeploying the army from occupied areas to Kursk makes it easier for the Ukrainian resistance.
So even if Ukraine has to retreat from Kursk in the near future and loses some ground on the current fronts in Ukraine, the long term benefits could help them.
It all remains to be seen how it plays out, but the Ukrainians have so far shown that they are resilient and crafty. They also know their enemy and the Russian psyche probably better than anyone.

russian drone enters Polish airspace. The Polish army is searching its territory for a russian drone that flew into the country during a massive attack on Ukraine.
Eric's mom, otherwise known as Canadian journalistic icon Diane Francis did an interview the other day and seems pretty convinced that Putin is in the throws of death and has a really high chance of being deposed. She also said that Ukraine had an opportunity to assassinate Putin, but the U.S. convinced them not to.
Diane Francis has a been a huge vocal supporter of Ukraine for years even pre-dating Putin's full scale invasion. I believe Ukraine gave her some kind of honors a few years ago. I don't know how much of what she says is pro-Ukrainian optimism, but I think she is very intelligent, knowledgeable and an expert on geo politics.
