It's lifted. To the surprise of no one, it's awful.

I have absolutely no clue why they would even attempt to re-make The Crow. None of it makes any sense outside of trying to double-dip on an IP.

Who was asking for this? Who thought it was a good idea? The original has such a mystique and lore around it that it was never going to be recaptured.

I think you essentially just described modern Hollywood in about 5 sentences.

It's everything.

In a world where creativity should now be thriving, it's being crushed.

It's legitimately difficult to find new, original ideas across the vast majority of mediums.

Books, Comics, Movies, Shows, Games...it's remasters, remakes, reimagining, re, re, re, re.

Probably speaks to a larger issue in society with things just being comfortable, and corporations being so afraid of producing anything that goes against that comfort. Risk aversion undoubtedly sits high on the reason why we're getting hit on all of this. I remember the day of the mid-quality games and movies where smaller studios could make a decent amount of money, and find the next breakout hit - but the risk on the flip side is studios of that size also can't really carry one of those mid-range titles failing...so, "why even try" has seemingly been the approach for a decade+, and it's now left us in this current state of "re-"

Now, there are definitely some works that benefited from a re-visit. The Coen Brothers' True Grit is a goddamned masterpiece that improved on pretty well everything from the original film. It was more faithful to the source material, and no amount of nostalgia for The Duke can defeat the fact that the modern adaptation is superior, IMO.

Robocop? Why? Why did you do that?
Total Recall? Stop it.

Total Recall and Robocop are both action films that are defined by the period they were made in and the technology used to make them. Perfect examples of films that should not be remade. Total Recall had Arny fighting his neon-spandex wearing wife, 3 boobs, eyes popping out of his head with the most over exaggerated practical effects possible, etc... yes we know that CGI can probably do a better job, but with none of the charm.

Crow is also a movie that shouldn't be remade. It was from a time period that gave rise to bands like NIN. Trying to recreate that just doesn't work. It's also a serialized concept, with the "Crow" attaching itself to various characters who need revenge. Why do you need to remake the movie, instead of add a sequel? Just name the character something other than Eric Draven, so that way you don't to crap all over Brandon Lee's grave.

I mean, this probably will be another cult hit with Gen Alpha and Gen Z goths.

It's not for us. It's not like they're remaking it 20 years ago, which I wasn't behind.
I'm sure it will flop at the box office, but like, we've all aged out of the 18-30 bracket that most modern media cares about.

Lol.

I'm not defending his acting. However, I do think a lot of the case against him was more akin to someone going through a rough time mentally than an abuser. He got into a bunch of bar fights and was acting erratically.

The alt right was really trying to make the case that Miller was getting some kind of free pass, because they identified as non-binary. That really wasn't the case.

What Miller does in 'Miller time' is up to (dont know pronoun). But that movie sucked ass.

Ezra Miller is still a putz and The Flash still sucks. Nothing has changed.

X2, First Class, Days of Futures Past and Logan are absolute classics in the genre. Deadpool 1/2 are fun movies but their not even close to the same level. The others hold up on multiple watches, Deadpool's jokes run dry fast.

I'd agree with that.

First Class was really good, I havent seen X2 in a long time, DOFP was great and frankly Logan was nothing short of a Masterpiece.

It's because Ryan Reynolds is one note as hell. Basically box office poison until a pre-existing character in a tent pole studio was spoonfed to him.

He's the male Jessica Alba, handsome and awful.

Part-way through Madame Web. In the previous Kraven discussion, I'd totally forgotten that Sony had done this. The movie isn't actually as bad as I was expected, but at various points the cinematography just seems very low budget. This would have actually made for a good TV series on Netflix, more than a movie. I would put it above all of the Netflix/Disney series that the MCU did. It just didn't feel like a movie, in terms of both production quality and pacing.

This really has to be the most disjointed "Universe" I've ever seen. All of these spiderman movies seem to have nothing in common...and most bizarrely, they don't actually have spiderman in them.

Venom came out in 2018...that was 6 years ago. These movies are all supposed to tie in together at some point? Also, there's another Venom movie coming out in a couple of months? And then two months after that Kraven comes out? Does Sony actually expect people to go see two spiderverse movies in two months?

I suspect it's on purpose and they tie in together somehow, even with just a post-credit teaser. I would be surprised if Kraven isn't looking to hunt Spider-man by the end of his movie and I suspect we see the Venom symbiote on its way to New York as well. (Saying this I haven't seen Venom 2 or Morbius and I likely will not watch V3 or Kraven. Typing this all makes me sad as I loved Spider-man growing up but these movies just appear to suck.)

The Spiderman movies themselves are all solid to great. The other wrinkle in this is that Tom Holland's Spiderman exists in a different universe. I guess he's somewhat primed to leave his universe and enter the Sony Spider-verse? In any event it's really strange.

I guess Sony is hedging their bets? Maybe Holland's future as Spiderman is somewhat uncertain. If he doesn't agree to play the role for another 10 years, they can now introduce their own Spiderman?

Yeah I dunno, the whole universe thing, I thought like a drop of symbiote was left in Holland's or something...I dunno. Don't really care to be honest. I do like the Holland Spider-man's and would be totally fine if Venom and/or Kraven just showed up (honestly I thought they missed it after End Game. He easily could have brought something back from space). I have a feeling Hardy is probably good with leaving Venom behind and it's an easy character to literally just attach to someone else.

If I were Holland's agent I would be hard balling each new contract for minimal movies with maximum payment, but with a long term view of playing Spiderman probably until he's 40 or as long as he can. Why not? The dude is almost 30 still looks like a teenager and he's really great. Good enough and popular enough that he could basically demand to do it how he wants and be rich AF. Look at RDJ. You can be Spider-man and win Oscars in Nolan movies. You could do Peter Parker's whole arc into adulthood and retirement and bring in Miles Morales for passing the torch etc... Any long term planning at all and Sony can make a lot of money making some good movies that people like. Their track record without Marvel guiding the ship is pretty crappy though.
