the dealership is very family and dog friendly - i think we saw 3 dogs as soon as we walked in. when we were talking with the sales guy there were a number of families in the building with young (just crawling) children.
now the gear grinder... 'dude bro' wearing his 'bad boyz' hoodie and flat brim hat on sideways (no white oakleys... it's rainy and overcast today) comes into the dealership with... a pitbull. then gets all ticked off becuz he's told he can't bring his dog into the building. of course he makes a scene becuz "dude bro".
i just don't get people... what part of you thinks it's a good idea to bring a pitbull into an environment like that - give your head a shake.
i tip my hat to the employees of the dealership for handling the situation the way they did - good for them!
As a dog lover I get very cautious when I see someone out walking with their pitbull. I don't trust that breed of dog and I have no idea how well trained it is. In fact I had an incident where a guy was walking his pitbull down my street earlier this week. Dog sees me standing outside my garage and wants to come up and i assume to visit, just like other dogs do. Owner said he's trained and wants to say hello. I politely said no and to keep walking.

I would say bad behaviour is unacceptable regardless of your potential benefits to society. You don’t get a pass because you may contribute at some point. If that were the case, service dogs that bark at night get a pass too.
Kids, dogs, adults, etc that behave like dickheads are all equal dickheads.
You are still missing the point. I made no comment on the relative merits of dogs annoying people or kids annoying people. I only am commenting on people comparing the two.
Comparing dog behaviour and child behaviour for any reason is asinine.
So sick of short shorts that are in style for dudes right now. If I can see your knees I wanna beat you up. How did this style that was always in for preppy frat boys or pocket-protector nerds become fashionable for otherwise normal looking guys? Wtf

i forgot to mention in my post that "dude bro's" pitbull of course was not on a leash... why on earth would he put a lease on a dog like that

I am still not sure how we got to the point where bringing in your dogs anywhere and everywhere became culturally appropriate. People think it's their right to just bring dogs to car dealerships, the bank, shopping at clothing stores, airplanes, every patio known to man and more.
People get pissy when told at the front desk of hotels that no pets are allowed now too. People thinking they can now sleep in everybody else's bed with their muts is wild in 2024

We didn't. Most don't. Just wrapping up raising two kids and we were militant about no screaming and screeching. 90% of the people we raised kids along side were like us. Then the moronic trashy ones just let their kids scream. It just takes a couple in a large group to make it look like they're all screaming, but it's usually just one or two. You can typically pick them out before they even start screaming: hair not brushed, sleepies in eyes, toothpaste stains on shirts, crust in the corner of mouths, dirty fingernails, etc.

I could rant endlessly on this, but a good chunk of these "bad behaved kids" simply have different neurochemistry, and it is LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE for them to exist comfortably within our neurotypical societal expectations (many many many of which are ####ing stupid and none of us like, anyways). And it can be essentially impossible to teach/discipline/etc them in a way that makes any sense to our neurotypical brains. Science/medicine is barely beginning to understand this; diagnosis is difficult and subjective, and it isn't something that can be 'fixed' any more than the colour of one's skin or sexual orientation.
Peace and quiet is not an unreasonable expectation. Good chance those kiddos live in a state of constant dysregulation, despite their parent's best efforts (that may well have evaporated at some point out of lack of understanding and the futility of it all, because holy #### it can be incredibly ####ing hard). So as much as they may disrupt dozens of moments of your day, imagine what they might be feeling most of the time.
None of us can really imagine what it's like to live in a world that is constantly hostile to you (but doesn't seem to bother most others). 3 years ago I probably would have been a judgmental prick about loud kids and 'bad parents'. Not anymore.

I agree.
We as a society painted ourselves into a corner.
You can't leave your dog alone or you're a monster.
You can leave your dog in the car for a few minutes as long as its not insanely hot out. But you're risking Batman smashing your window in. So...can't do that.
You can kennel-train your dog and leave them at home while you work, so long as you dont leave them too long so as they cant go outside to pee. If you do, you're a monster. So...can't do that.
You think I want to bring my dog into a store with me? Why? Thats a pain in the ass! But society says he can't stay in the car and he cant be left home alone.
So what are the options?
We can be pissed off about it, but at the end of the day we did it to ourselves and at some point we're just going to have to accept our Canine Overlords.
Credit to them. They played the Long-Game.

the option is to NOT own a dog!
don't get me wrong - i LOVE dogs... but we don't own one. we do dog sit and that is more than enough for us. the main reason we dog sit is becuz our kids would LOVE to have a dog but we don't want one for all the reasons you posted and if you add in food and vet bills they are stinkin' expensive!

I must be of the minority but I don't see a problem with people bringing their support or service dogs. On the other hand for the vast majority it's their lap and small dogs that you see in stores and such. No large ones.
My brother used to travel with his dog when he drove up from his place in Minnesota to visit me in High River. His first day stop would be in Estevan and he would stay in motel that had a room that allowed for pets. His lab Buddy would sleep on the floor. That said he had to pay extra in case there was an extra cleaning needed.

If you owned one you would come to realize they are like family. Growing up we had 2 dogs, Black Lab and Cockapoo and none us enjoyed the day when we had to put them down. Yes they can be expensive to own but they also can be great friends and companions

The super-long skater-dude shorts you favour were only the norm for 20 years. From the 50s through the 80s, shorts didn’t cover the knees. Gen Z are just going back to the historical norm.

i agree 100%
we had dogs growing up and i loved them... i just don't want one now. my wife and i have enough to do in our days and adding another full time family member would not be a good idea - we dog-sit and that's works out great. we don't charge the lady to watch her dog (her work rotates her from kelowna one week then osoyoos the next week... so it's usually one week (5 work days) with the dog, then one week without the dog).
the best part is if stuff is going on and it doesn't work to watch the dog the lady has another option for dog sitting (but i think that dog sitter charge $30/day or something like that. we don't charge anthing)

I’m semi-retired and the work I do I do at home. In shorts, knees showing. I think I’ve worn pants once in the last three months. I’m told I have nice legs.
Shorts should at least get close to the knee, rather than just past the ball bag like we see on kids now
You have to remember that they’re still young so when they’re wearing a 5” short they don’t have to worry because their ball bag isn’t hanging 4 inches down like it does for some of the elderly here.

I have several online ordered shorts that I will never wear. It’s impossible to find a reasonable length, and my legs aren’t even long.
