Lol. So, let's retain for three years on Coleman, who just scored 30 goals. And in return, we'll get David Kampf, who has scored 27 goals in total over his last four seasons; Conor Timmins, who has appeared in 91 NHL games in total over his last five seasons; Semyon Der-Arguchintsev, who has not been on an NHL contract in two seasons and is essentially Toronto's Eetu Tuulola equivalent; and a second-round pick in three years. Great!

That's a terrible trade for sure.

None of those pieces help the Flames, the pick is meh, and we are retaining on a guy that is a great contributor.

If the Leafs want Coleman with retention they can send over Easton Cowan.

I'd sooner just take a future Maple Leafs 1st than Cowan.

Typical fan proposal of our garbage for your gold, but it's Toronto so it's even more oblivious.

Why?

A guy who put up 96 points in 54 games in the regular season, and 34 points in 18 playoff games, on the way to an OHL championship and Memorial cup finals appearance feels like a pretty good pick up.

I want nothing to do with anything associated with Brad Treliving. There's enough of 'him' already here.

Meh - I didn't really think of Cowan as a Treliving pick.

He was hired for like a week before that pick was made.

If anything it would be funnier that it seems like the Leafs scouts and draft team made a pretty shrewd pick before Treliving got there, and then he ends up trading it away.

If the Flames are retaining on Coleman the return needs to be huge, because it leaves them only one retention spot left and they are important for trade deadline deals. Coleman with retention begins with two 1st rounders + or one high end prospect. .

There is nothing legit coming out of Toronto right now about Coleman.

I would keep Coleman. He seems to want to be a Flame, and has a very good compete level. Can be a mentor to the young guys.

Keep the ones who want to be here.

It's not very thrilling, imo.
A retained Coleman is not being traded for a collection of junk.

Of course the Flames should trade Coleman, or any Flame, if the offer was juicy enough.

But there's no reason to trade him as he has value even in a rebuilding situation.
If he were to be traded with retention, it should fetch more than a bags of pucks.

Typical Toronto rumor, just made up stuff with all the significant assets going to Toronto for essentially pennies on the dollar returns.

You can pretty much throw 95% of Treliving/Toronto rumors straight into the recycle bin.

From what I've been told what you see now is what Calgary is going to start with baring any significant injuries.
Nothing in the pipeline, nothing cooking as we speak.
Craig fully expects some young guys to make it out of camp.

I can only hope someone calls Craig and offers a ton for Rasmus or Blake.... or either/both of those guys ask Craig for a trade.

I'd Trade Coleman to Brad Treliving for the same price he paid for Hamonic.

Any word on potential PTO targets? Or are we sticking to not inviting any?

This doesn't surprise me.

As much as moving Kadri, Coleman, or Andersson might make sense longer term... the owner still wants some attempt of at least being "competitive" in the short term as this isn't a Chicago or San Jose last year level of rebuild.

Right now they have a pretty good balance of saving money ($20M of cap room) and the level of competitiveness that I think the owner wants.

Now if they are in the bottom 10 of the league on January 1st then I think that changes and more things open up and you see more veterans moved potentially.

UFAs: Kuzmenko, Mantha, Rooney, Duehr, Hanley, Vladar
Term: Kadri, Coleman, Andersson

Especially if some teams that are desperate to make a leap, and who have cap room, start off strong. If any of Buffalo, Utah, Columbus, Detroit etc get off to a good start and are in a playoff position by Jan 1 then I could see them looking at one of our vets with term.

The only thing that does surprise me a little bit is that Jakob Pelletier doesn't have a contract signed yet.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Flames are exploring a trade for Pelletier. He's going to need waivers and there is just too much winger depth. Would make sense to trade him for a similar prospect that plays centre. Maybe there's a team out there who is looking for a young winger and has a centre that they don't have room for? Maybe a Pelletier for Peyton Krebs type of deal?

Good. Don't force anything, opportunities come up when they do. Cap space will be needed by someone else. Sometimes the best deal is the one not made.
