I remember seeing Bobby Orr in his last game at the dome...Good times.
Am I doing this right?

Doug Gilmore's triumphant return to the Leafs in 2003 that ended after he skated backwards into Dace Lowry during his second shift was a little funny. Never played again

"Quite honestly I'd do it to my mother if she was running the oilers" is gold.

I kind of cringed at all the backlash against Seravelli during the season on CP, as it just seemed like "he's not saying our players are worth gold while we're trying to trade them", but this is honestly disturbing lately from someone trying to be legitimate.
He sincerely seems to be more of an Oilers spokesperson this summer, trying to twist everything to be genius as much as their complete homer mouthpieces do. Very odd behavior.

It's not like it's anything different. This has been the narrative since 2006. You know what the constant is? Entitlement. Let it ride.

As soon as McLotteryball and Pissy leave Dumpsterville for greener pastures (which will happen sooner than later), the clowns at SN and the rest of the hockey media will go back to pumping Toronto's tires for the next few years. We'll finally be able to enjoy watching western conference games in peace without all the Oiler bulls*** getting shoved down our throats 24/7. The Flames will hopefully be a team on the rise by then. It's gonna be glorious.

The oilers had so many things go right for them last year… it will be really funny to see their luck swing the other way this season… of all seasons. Especially because it’s likely Draisaitl’s last with the Oilers. The Oilers were the healthiest team in the league last season. And they are a team that can’t afford injuries because they are not a deep organization. Imagine if they lost Mcdavid for like 2 months… at that point, it won’t be “will they make the playoffs?” It will be “Are they a lottery team? Again?!”

I don't know what they're going to do with themselves on the western broadcasts. I'm not sure they know either.
They've poured their hearts and souls into this team of criminals and scaliwags.
Frank and Elliotte really tethered themselves to that circus this year in particular.

The usual. Pretend the Flames and Jets don't exist and slobber over the Canucks and Oilers.

Expecting journeymen NHLers to take a salary haircut (because that's basically all they can pad their roster with) is asking a lot when the average career is about five seasons (less for goalies).

What else are the Oilers suppose to say? They dont have the cap to sign anyone to fair deals. They spent all that money overpaying all the other players. They say that because they have to.
You want to be an Oiler, you have to take a pay cut. Its a true statement because their cap situation dictates it.

It would be glorious if we stopped Toronto from breaking their curse and also a big F U to Treliving.

Exactly. If McDavid goes to Toronto somehow it will actually be worse. Of course that only happens if Matthews leaves so there is a near-zero chance of it.
Just go be a ranger, Connor.

How could it be worse? The Leafs get top billing regardless of how relevant they are so nothing really changes if McDavid is a Leaf. I mean TSN front page was 3+ Matthews captaincy articles right at the top headlines for almost an entire week after it was announced regardless of what was actually going in in sports on the given days. The end of the over the top HNIC slobbering over the Oilers will be a huge win for fans of other western teams.

I think they can fit both.
This season is the last for each of Tavares (11m) and Marner (11m). I could see Tavares re-signing for around 4m, then that leaves 16m for McDavid and 2m for a roster filler after Marner is dealt or walks.

The Leafs have a lot of options, if it becomes clear that's where McDavid wants to go. They would gladly move any roster player but Matthews, if it meant having McDavid play there.

To top up on that tweet....the biggest Difference for the Oilers these last 2 seasons is that they finally weren't an absolute disaster at 5v5 when 97 and 29 weren't on the ice.
20-21:
With 97 or 29: 86 GF - 64 GA (+22)
Without 97 or 29: 29 GF - 52 GA (-23)
21-22:
With 97 or 29: 123 GF - 93 GA (+30)
Without 97 or 29: 58 GF - 80 GA (-22)
22-23:
With 97 or 29: 117 GF - 108 GA (+9)
Without 97 or 29: 74 GF - 60 GA (+14)
23-24:
With 97 or 29: 128 GF - 85 GA (+43)
Without 97 or 29: 65 GF - 68 GA (-3)
Foegele, McLeod, Holloway and some of the other guys they lost were a bit part of that improvement the last 2 seasons and will be interesting to see of Henrique + Arvidsson can fill the role that McLeod/Foegele were playing in the bottom 6.
