I don't think Kane wants to sit on LTIR all season, only to then play in the playoffs, and then end up having to be a UFA who hadn't played at all the season before and in tough to get a contract.

The way he looked at the bench I think he'll have to stand on LTIR.

It sounds like the Oilers were hard lowballing these guys, just to keep their team as good as it was last year. Now, the Oilers are likely worse than last year. Go Blues!

Someone else posted his analytics are off the charts, using 30 games.
Tory is also a 7th defenceman. That is what his career is, who can jump in and play games for you. He will now be tasked with playing in the top 4 most likely with Nurse as his partner.

They do.
6 Mark Giordanos who play with the effectiveness of 40-year-old Mark Giordano.
So...not exactly Norris candidates.

Exactly! What I find interesting about that image as well, is you can almost see the overall season point totals slowly trending down for those teams as we get closer to today’s NHL.
Average age of cup winning team over the last 10 Stanley Cups is 27.73 years and the last five is 27.97. The oldest cup winner in the last decade is Vegas at 28.38. Being nearly two years older on average after just coming off a long playoff push isn’t exactly where you want to be. Doesn’t mean they can’t do it, but the stats tell us otherwise.
The one good stat they do have in their favor is there has been nine teams over the last five seasons to ice a hockey club 29 years and older, six of them made the playoffs. And as we know anything can happen once you get in. The bad news is four of them went out in the 1st round, one in the second, and only team to make the SCF was last year’s Oilers. Now they gotta run it back as an even older team with arguably a worse team on paper (especially on D).

It does sound that way. Another team was confident enough in their abilities to offer them more.
The Oilers seem...okay, I know this sounds insane, but it seemed like they wanted these particular guys to stay crapville on the cheap so they could do other stupid things with their money.
That makes no sense. But look at the sequence of events.
They thought they could keep these guys for less than HALF of what other teams valued them at because.....because why? Because McDavid? Because Edmonton?
Those aren't reasons.
The Management team in Edmonton is straight up delusional.
And, don't get me wrong, I don't think Broberg and Holloway are irreplaceable superstars or anything, but Edmonton's cupboards are bare and they are out of other options.
