Re-imagine the NHL! Goaltenders with deteriorating equipment.

Every shot all of a sudden means so much more! Yeah, you make not have scored but now he's got no glove, only 1 skate, the pads are starting to come apart and the blocker cant take much more!

After 20 or 30 shots whats he got left? Plus...the ice crew has to leave the LEGO blocks on the ice, they cant shovel them away!

I dont know what it'd be like to skate into a LEGO block....but I doubt it'd be good!

We could change the Game!

Plus the sponsorship would likely be pretty lucrative. I think LEGO Corp makes a fair bit of cash.

I must be going crazy because visualizing this LEGO goalie gear completely getting destroyed on contact from a puck is cracking me up

Could you imagine full goaltending equipment made out of LEGO blocks?

That bitch would weigh a ton!

Welcome to the inner workings of my mind. Nobody said it was a nice place to be.

Hm. Yes.

However, if his team has possession of the puck in the offensive zone, is he allowed to attempt to re-assemble his equipment?

We may need a GM's meeting to determine that!

I think having this discussion is fine. While I think Taj's post is being done to generate interaction with him on twitter, it has legitimacy to it.

Dhaliwal is an insider, he has contacts in the organization both in management and with the players.

There very clearly are people in the organization that are concerned this is still on-going over three months since he last played a game when the initial thought was he'd be ready for the WCF. It's just the thought carries on that there isn't concern that Demko won't be ready for training camp. The legitimately are looking around to see if there is a goalie on the market that they can bring in if the worst situation happens. But this is not something the team expects to need to replace Demko.

If I could add my opinion, It's more likely that they are coming to terms with the fact Demko is not Hellebyuck. He's not playing 60+ games in a season and getting through unscathed. They need a guy they can reliably turn to 25-30+ times in a season so when the play-offs start, Demko can go deep. Silovs, despite his adequate filler job in in the play-offs, is probably not ready for that. Petera is a replacement level goalie and more suited for the #3 role. So you look to see if a legitimate #2 who you know can fill that role is ready to go.

The Twitter guy isn't an insider at all though; just a noisy fan.
And fine; I don't mean to shoot at the OP or be the thread police, but it's pretty useless information.

Well, I wouldn't call it useless - can disagree strongly on the extent, but media are actually talking about the general idea of him being injured, etc.

Thats a LEGO goalie paddle to the mind.

It'll most likely break, but thats science for you, we'll never know until we try.

All their best players are in their prime, they're definitely in win now mode.

That said I think Askarov makes a ton of sense for them. If you assume that Demko, given his injury history (which dates back to his college days) won't be a starter well into his 30s, then Askarov's timeline as a 22 year old is more or less perfect to hand the job off to as Demko declines. It's basically exactly what Nashville did with Saros taking the reins from Rinne in 2020-2021 when Saros was 25. Or hell, Demko doing the same taking over from Markstrom at 25, when the Flames signed him.

The problem with that is everyone assumes Askarov is a can't miss prospect, you never know with goalies. Samsonov was touted the same.
