100% the article from Staples tomorrow will be the Oilers declined to match because they aren’t interested in players who don’t want to be there. Zero chance he doesn’t pin it on Broberg and Holloway

Either way they are screwed. Unless they can flip those picks to plug the hole on defence.
But why trade Ceci and pick.

Would be very funny if both are lost and the consolation prize is Podkolzin and a random from SJ.
Picks will result in nothing cause its the oilers and they're not top 10.

So agreeing with you in 2025.

Sure I just think that they would be able to announce their decision and update their website at the same time. I don't think that there will be someone posting something on their website a day before they announce it to the public.

Pretty sure they are not listed on the Oiler’s roster, because they are currently under contract with St Louis.

That’s literally what they did. Maybe not a day, but definitely hours prior. It remained hidden until say 2pm and then it appeared. When Telus was doing the flames pages, it was hours after any announcement when things showed up on the flames website. Telus would publish/update after the announcement. Think about how web pages were constructed and rendered; everything was coded by hand…and that took time and then had to be checked and re-checked for errors. I don’t think that anyone thought that being a webmaster was such a fleeting job!

Now of course, it is real time and with web content management you can publish instantly…updated as they make the announcement exactly as you say.

On thread…I wonder how late the oilers leave announcing their intentions…like 7:29am?

Will be strange if they don’t match on either of them at this point after making those trades yesterday.

You know
If they don’t match, they aren’t a whole lot different than they were before,
Except
They are suddenly cap compliant
They replace Ceci with another waiver piece, Holloway with another prospect and Broberg with stecher, another defenseman who never played

The Ceci trade is still strange. Just tossed him away in the middle of the night and apparently him and Pissy are great friends.

Maybe it’s all part of the negotiation.

I’ll be shocked if they don’t match both. They don’t let players under their control escape that easily.

I think everyone assumed they would use Kane on LTIR to become cap compliant. In which case, they could have kept those guys instead.

They “screwed up” when they slept on signing their RFA’s
They may have just stumbled into a fortunate situation by replacing crap with cheaper replacements and suddenly not having to do anything else to maintain status quo
