I doubt it's on the table but I wouldn't hesitate to trade Wolf for Askarov. I think the latter is the best goalie prospect in the NHL, though Wallstedt also in the conversation.

I could see the ask being Andersson. And I would do that trade, as proposed - would be fantastic for both teams.

Give em both half the games and it's all out competition for the defensive spots. Plus the two young goalies can compete as well. You are right this is a win/win deal.

I am still not over Yzerman picking Cossa over Wallstedt. It really makes no sense.

From what I've read Askarov snd Wallstedt from the Wild are neck and neck as the two top goaltending prospects in the league. They're close to Shesterkin level prospects. So there should be a lot of teams after him. I'd think the Preds would rather put him out East.
It's very uncharacteristic for the Preds to extend the vet and sign a veteran backup with a young guy like this who is so close. Maybe it's signability or another Radulov situation scaring them off here. In the past they would have had Askarov in line to take over the net for next season. I guess Trotz wants to take a swing to try and level up.

Yeah I have to think the Preds are not looking for a goalie back unless it's a guy with a 3 plus year time frame.
I don't think they'll have any trouble trading Askarov...it's a matter of them getting what they want.

Could see this. Leafs need quality without huge cap hit. Askarov fits with what they want. Treliving rarely likes to trade prospects but has never been afraid to trade picks. Could see him do a pick heavy deal for Askarov.

So would I, but it never really sits well with me when a young player makes demands like this.

It makes sense in the situation though. Even if he does well he will be traded from Nashville in the future and now he is just forcing the issue.

This trade request makes sense for him. He is 22 and the league is getting younger. They signed Saros for 8 years, he could be close to 30 before he is a full time starter in Nashville.

Toronto has to be the worst environment for a young goalie....

Seems like more of a lock to be that future starter than Wolf.
Wolf has all of the talent needed but when he's just a little bit off that size gets exposed. It's not ability but mental strength that's the biggest question mark for him.
Ideally we could roll with both.

Fewer questions with Askarov than Wolf. Doesn't mean he'll be better necessarily, but I think he comes with greater upside and less risk.

Brad "in on everything" Treliving is apparently trying to do whatever he can to acquire.
None rumor related as I haven't heard from my contact this morning, but could/would a potential swap work both teams?
Marner for Askarov as a start?

All the more reason to be in this if we can ####block Bradley.

Wolf has outperformed Askarov at the AHL level by a fair margin.
And it's not like Wolf was propped up at that level. The team's overall performance dropped dramatically with any other goalie in net other than Wolf.
I don't mind the idea of getting Askarov and running both of them on the Flames to see who wins out. But trading Wolf for Askarov seems like a great way to end up shooting yourself on the foot.
Like trading up in the draft with a team so you can draft a highly touted goalie and only to have him fizzle out, and then watch the goalie the other team took later in the draft with your pick have a hall of fame career.
Could you imagine?
