Options were take a pick from the Oilers or lose the player on Waivers if no one else wanted him.

I liked him as a prospect but he's waiver fodder at this point.

Are you a Canucks fan?
Everyone I know here in Vancouver was still high on him; but I guess management maybe wasn't.
Still seems like an unnecessary risk to send him to your likely playoff opponent. Send him East for s 5th even.

Nobody out East just had their only young forward offer-sheeted.
I wouldn't be surprised if Edmonton was the only team to offer anything for Podkolzin at this point in the off-season.

Some are still hopeful about Jakob Pelletier too but if the Flames traded him today we'd be lucky to get a 4th.

Yeah, I get the move from the Canucks perspective. Like you said, he simply hasn't done enough with his opportunities. I believe Bruce also wasn't a fan of his, I think? I recall it was either Pods or the other young player that Bruce wasn't thrilled with while he was coach so their development stalled.

I don't remember the exact order of things, but his development was a mess the moment he got drafted.
SKA ####ed him over and stopped giving him playing time. Then in Vancouver one coach would love him and give him all the time in the world, and he'd flourish and then another would bench him for no reason.
Same thing happened with Hoglander, who responded to his last stint in the AHL. Podz never flourished the same way.

haven't you been telling us, for some time, that the Nucks were very high on Podkolzin, and there was no way he would be traded in any of the proposals that he popped up in?

Just another prospect overrated by hometown fans. I like the gamble for the Oilers but I don’t think the Canucks risked much. I didn’t want him coming back in the Lindholm trade.

The draft pick value suggests otherwise.

I think this pretty much signals Holloway is gone to the blues which is funny since I don’t think they ever really wanted Holloway.

I can't imagine Edmonton would still be willingly trading away draft picks unless they knew they were getting one or two back by not matching the offer sheets on their players.

They also have Ottawa's 4th, according to Capwages.

What? If you're trying to just use draft pick value in return then Holloway returns more with a 3rd versus a 4th for Podkolzin so Holloway is more valuable. Also, the Oilers would not have just traded away a 3rd for Holloway, so his value is higher than the draft pick he will return, furthering the argument that Holloway is a better player.

There was a few years there where much of the hockey world considered Podkolzin one of the top prospects in the league....

Therefore e=ng=v and ev=ng squared.
