I don’t have any recommendations but I give the phrasing of the thread title a score of 10 out of 10

Call Jacuzzi Calgary and ask them who they use. The guy did mine, he's very trusted by all the hot tub companies and the CoC inspectors know him.

I had Pete the electrician in a few months back for some work.
Despite the cheesy commercials they were quite reasonable and did good work.
Had them replace a water tank a few months previous to that as well.

This is a very typical job for electricians to do, nothing fancy or difficult here. If you even have a family friend who’s an apprentice at a 3rd year or above this would be a simple task for them.

I just got a hot tub installed last week, bought at paradise bay and they recommended Corby at Willy’s Electric, he did a great job.
They don’t seem to have a website, but if you’re interested I can DM you their phone number.

I wouldn’t be so sure. I doubt you’ve ever met BigNumbers and how do you look in a Speedo?

Are you sure about that? Pretty sure hot tubs need a permit if water exceeds 2 feet and I doubt a 3rd year apprentice could get you one to pass.

Karly the sparky, she's on fifth as well.
Then there is Touch it I dare you. They are just off fifth.
You should just go down to the electrician district.
Be sure to check Locke's Shox. The thing about that is Locke will get in the hot tub with you!!

It’s a greasy way of doing it and against permit regulations but what happens all the time is that a homeowner will pull a permit for the hot tub install and have an apprentice do the work. Absolutely not the proper way to go about it, but it’s an easy way to save some bucks.
The actual job itself is quite easy, 1 breaker, 2 chunks of wire and 1 spa pack to wire up.

Sure, but will you hook up in the hot tub? That is the hard part.

Are homeowners now allowed to pull permits for hot tubs? Back in my day, homeowners were not allowed to pull permits for pools/hot tubs and the main service, but were allowed to work on basically anything else. Logic behind it was pools/hot tubs were social items and you run the risk of harming your guests and with the main if you mess up, you run the risk of taking down power to your neighborhood.
One thing to be aware of is the layout of single phase panels. The breaker stabs are typically L1,L2,L2,L1,L1,L2,L2…, you want to install the two pole hot tub breaker so it is attached to L1 and L2.

Can’t speak to when the rule changed on it but as of a few years ago a friend who has no journeyman or master tickets (engineer tech) was able to pull the electrical permit himself along with his basement as a homeowner.
https://www.calgary.ca/development/h...rical%20permit.
Also if you manage to trip the primary feeder going through your spa pack breaker, branch circuit breaker, main circuit breaker in your panel, through fault the transformer, bayonette fuses on the transformer primary, any auto switching PMH gear with built in protection, any fuse cutouts from lateral poles and finally landing back at your substation feeder breaker.
If you manage to kaboom all those layers of protection, I commend you and want to give you a hug.
