Seems to be innovating and questioning instead of accepting commonly held beliefs. That's typically how humanity makes breakthrough discoveries; it's certainly why baseball analytics are where they are today.

Yes. Because he made a conclusion that seems silly in retrospect means the analysis of the data was wrong? If you take the names out of the argument and examine the actual argument in the context of hockey data that was known in 2005, it's intriguing.

Playing a PP with 4 forwards was silly until everyone did it. Pulling the goaltender with more than 1 minute left was silly until everyone did it.

Carolina is the most innovative team in the league in my opinion.

It's entirely possible that Conklin isn't better than Brodeur, but it's also possible that he is. The data from last year suggests that he's in the same ballpark at ES.

It sounds like someone who is keeping an open mind, to me, using the primitive analytics that were available in 2005 and recognizing the variance of the goaltending position. Would you like to bring up something else he's discussed since then?

You can belittle me or my curiosity about analyzing hockey if it makes you feel better.

Those crazy takes have got Dellow at least two NHL jobs and led to speaking at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics conference. I hadn't heard of him until this week but that's a pretty impressive resume for how he's portrayed by some here.
