Yeah, his behaviour as recently as 3 months ago really painted the overall picture of an objective guy.

Not sure if that's long enough to shake the forum trolling tendencies.

What good are the advanced numbers when your batting rate on predicting player trajectories has been worse than resident CPers who just used their eyeballs.

90% of being successful is just actually trying to be that thing. Bunch of people crapping on the dude, well now he's an AGM of an NHL team. A job a lot of us would probably love.

Same as Scorp. Came in here all piss and vinegar wanting to be a sports journalist. Could've let haters keep him down but he's doing it.

Seems to be innovating and questioning instead of accepting commonly held beliefs. That's typically how humanity makes breakthrough discoveries; it's certainly why baseball analytics are where they are today.

Yes. Because he made a conclusion that seems silly in retrospect means the analysis of the data was wrong? If you take the names out of the argument and examine the actual argument in the context of hockey data that was known in 2005, it's intriguing.

Playing a PP with 4 forwards was silly until everyone did it. Pulling the goaltender with more than 1 minute left was silly until everyone did it.

Carolina is the most innovative team in the league in my opinion.

Well I guess hiring a guy who hasn’t known what he’s talking about for 20 years means they’re the best innovators ever.

What has he been talking about for 20 years?

Does this sound like a declarative statement to you?

It's entirely possible that Conklin isn't better than Brodeur, but it's also possible that he is. The data from last year suggests that he's in the same ballpark at ES.
It sounds like someone who is keeping an open mind, to me, using the primitive analytics that were available in 2005 and recognizing the variance of the goaltending position. Would you like to bring up something else he's discussed since then?

No one has said that he's the best innovator ever.

Are you still here? Don’t you have a job to do Tyler?

I think it's cool in this age to see guys that came up chatting with fans and blogging on the Internet get some serious NHL jobs

Tulsky is the new John Chayka.

Butterfly is strangely invested in pumping Tyler's ("the data"s) tires here. That poster has had an odd history of hills to die on as well.

It would be pretty wild if he was both Butterfly and dgibbs.

Probably less about hidden identity and more about feeling vindicated by someone else with some of the worst goaltending takes you’ve ever read getting an NHL job.

I think it was Reggie who referred to the ES Sv% Champion as "Carnival Boy".

You can belittle me or my curiosity about analyzing hockey if it makes you feel better.

Those crazy takes have got Dellow at least two NHL jobs and led to speaking at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics conference. I hadn't heard of him until this week but that's a pretty impressive resume for how he's portrayed by some here.

If you're mad about posts from 20 years ago you need a social media detox imo. This random argument about Ty Conklin and Martin Brodeur is older than Zayne Parekh. Create like an internal Statute of limitations for yourself or something damn.
