You know I consider myself a "movie guy"... I've seen most of the classics, but never Casablanca. I feel bad for that. I've watched Frozen at least five times on various dates. This is not the animated Frozen, but instead Shawn Ashmore and Kevin Zegers being stuck on a ski hill and eaten by wolves... I'm probably not as romantic as I believe.

Casablanca is as good as it's advertised to be. Some of the older movies can feel so-so by today's standards. Casablanca holds up.

Everyone needs to see it at least once, it will not disappoint. Roger Ebert said it best; I've never seen a bad review for this movie

Definitely worth a watch, and it was the first time in a long time I opted for D-BOX seats (booked them a while ago)…which made things interesting, because I’m nursing some cracked ribs, so it made the jump scares have that extra bit of spice.

David Jonsson really stole the show. He played his character convincingly, totally nailing the mannerisms and subtle twitches

Alien Romulus was horrible. I hate movies about space and science fiction in general but gave it a shot anyway. Attended the lunch showing at Seton and was so disgusted in the first 15 minutes that I walked out. On my drive home a buddy called and said it gets amazing after that so I drove to the Shawnessy landmark and attended the 2pm showing and only made it half way through for walking out, again, in disgust. So disappointing.

Just to add on…
Casablanca could be released today, maybe styled as a throwback tribute to another era of film like The Artist was, and it would absolutely be a smash hit. It’s timeless.

It's subtle, but if you really squint you might be able to see what he did there...

I watched it during COVID and went in with a skeptical mindset. "Alright, all the film nerds say it's the best because all the other dead film nerds said it's the best before them".
It's a masterpiece.

Aliens was pretty good but were these xenomoprhs on steroids? I don't remember them morphing so quick in the previous movies. I didn't watch any trailers for this and didn't know any of the actors in it other than the 5th element guy but the lead actress was great!

LOL, yup, that's pretty true. I really do appreciate Citizen Kane for bringing in a modern era of film. If you watch movies made before and then after it, you really do see how it completely changed the game. But yes, it's purely a film for academics, not that great for the average person's enjoyment (although I do stand by the fact that it's a pretty great film).

It's historic in its execution and ambition. So was Star Wars.
Citizen Kane is just so boring. Casablanca is way better.

You know a script is good when there’s like 4 or 5 lines that enter in to the English language as phrases that still get used 80 years later. Most people probly don’t even know where they’re from anymore.

Fun fact Citizen Kane didn't even win the Oscar for best picture the year it was released. Talk about an all time screw up by the academy.
Another classic film I suggest everyone see at least once is the silent film Metropolis. So much of modern sci Fi comes from that film I was shocked when I watched it. From Batman 89 to Blade Runner and Star Wars all borrow from this film. Unfortunately a complete print of the film no longer exists but the Blu Ray release has like 90% of the film.
