Would be hilarious if the oilers end up trading another first round pick to get rid of Ceci/Kulak. The annoying thing is that there is usually one team that is dumb enough to take less for taking on a bad contract. Every team in the league should be holding their ground against the Oilers. To be honest, it would be even funnier if absolutely none of them would help the oilers get under the cap before the start of the season. Obviously that never happens but it would be amazing. Imagine it’s 2 days to the start of the season and they’re still over the cap even with Kane on LTIR… what kind of panic move they would be forced to do.

Not quite. Carolina said what they would do. They also made sure to say they would wait till the last day to do it.
But the fact that the Oilers aren't saying much does suggest there's more of a chance that they have to let one go.
I think the Preds kept pretty quiet on the Weber one. They wanted to keep him, but did have to find ways to make sure they'd have the money because that contract was pretty complex.

Seen some Oilers fans speculating that if the Oilers don't match Broberg, they will sign one of Barrie or Schultz.

Is this supposed to be...positive? Both of those guys are well post-apex.
The best you could say about either of them is:
"This guy knows how to put on skates and has a pulse."
And it'll probably be a cold day in Hell before Justin Schultz goes back to Edmonton.

Do we help out the Oilers and take on Ceci/Kulak for 1st & 2nd round picks?
I'm all for taking on some salary for futures and especially if we can flip them for more futures at the deadline.
That said, I'm not excited if it takes away ice time and giving one of our younger dmen prospects a chance.

The reason why one team will accept less than the others is because they want to do the deal. That's supply and demand. It does no good to teams to do what you say when its known that one or more teams care more about their own team that simply hurting the Oilers.
If Kane is on LTIR, it's going to be pretty easy to get under the cap. They could, even if its temporary, go with a reduced roster.

Oh man...its time to unveil the Evil Side of Conroy.
Get some picks for Ceci/Kulak and immediately shove them into the AHL so we get assets for taking them, we dont care about the money or Cap and our players still get NHL ice-time for development.
You wanna get nuts? Lets get nuts!!

Yeah the Fyers structured it to be heavily front loaded with signing bonuses (something like $30M of the deal was within the no-trade window and most of it was in two lump payments) so it was a cashflow issue for the Preds.
Not quite as extreme as the Hurricanes offer-sheet to Fedorov that had him getting $28M in one year and $2M a year for the rest of the contract. Sakic had something similar with a Rangers offer sheet.

Digging through the ex-Oiler trash bin. The oldest team in the league replaces a 23 year old with a 33 or 34 year old.

Even better is that they get picked up on waivers! So there are no negatives for the flames.
Not likely, but if we are blueskying…!

Yep, there's 31 other teams looking to improve, and 30 with fan bases that don't obsess over the Oilers. Ceci is overpaid, so it's like eating 2 million in cap over what his comps would cost. So if a second comes with him there are teams who will say we get a usable player and a reasonable pick to take him on and might be able to trade him at the deadline for something else like a later pick. With him being a one year deal it's an easier deal for retooling teams to absorb.

Oilers don't draft anything good with picks that aren't in the top half of the first round because their scouting (and development) is garbage.
They'll be hard pressed to replace these talents with useless 2nd and 3rd round picks..
Their success is built on essentially can't-miss picks. And even then, they're 2 for 4 on first overalls.
Boy is that organization terrible.

I am sure it has been mentioned already, but with the removal of Broberg and Holloway from the Oilers roster, the youngest players in Edmonton are Stuart Skinner and James Hamblin, who are both currently 25. Connor McDavid becomes the third-youngest player on the team at 27 years old.
Edmonton is no good.

Bouchard is 24 so 4th, but it’s absolutely hilarious that McDavid is going into his 10th season and nearly the whole team is older than him.

No kidding, went back 15 years and the best forwards they have drafted and developed, outside the first, is Juhjar Kharia and Ryan McLeod. McLeod just got traded. After that the next person of note to play games is huggy bear Sorintni.
