The park itself wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Now, I didn't go for a stroll in it but there were people there using it, playing basketball, throwing a frisbee and i didn't really see an "encampment" like in the past. The homeless seemed to be on the sidewalks and alleys more than the park. Maybe that changes at night.
I do feel for businesses around there though. Tough thing to ask your employees to deal with that all the time.
Nah! I bought my employees Cattle Prods to help shoo the vagrants away.
Nothing inspires compliance like a few volts.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
I sorta remember there being an encampment that had to be cleaned up after a bunch of crime, assaults, sex assaults, fires, etc. It was a few years back?
You can probably see it from the historical pictures from google maps/streetview.
Yes. It used to be totally covered in a tent city. They now pretty strictly enforce the no tent thing. It's pretty empty now.
I definitely feel sorry for the businesses in the area. There are a lot of new businesses clearly owned by new Canadians. Many may have invested their life savings into these buildings without a prior appreciation of what the area was like.
Three men were stabbed in the area of Granville and Nelson less than 15 minutes apart Monday evening
Police were called at 9:40 p.m. on Monday after a 33-year-old man was stabbed in the back on Granville Street near Nelson Street.
Minutes later, the VPD got another 911 call after a 41-year-old man was stabbed near Granville and Davie streets.
As officers responded to that, a 32-year-old man was stabbed near Nelson and Granville streets just 12 minutes after the first call.
Mayor Ken Sim issued a statement Tuesday seeking to assure residents the city remains safe despite the stranger attacks, coupled with the discoveries of two women’s bodies on English Bay beaches since Sunday.
100% it use to be littered with tents and shanties. It was probably one of the first parks to be taken over years ago. I wasn't expecting that but I was expecting something which I didn't really see. If one didn't know it looked like a normal park.

I hadn't heard about either of these stories.
WTF; I'm not leaving my house again.

Granville was always prone to violence. They continually try to fix it up, but it always just gives off bad vibes.
Whoever Arbitrated this ruling needs to be investigated, what an absolute complete load of ####
I've never heard of this; sounds like this is the first case the ministry has heard of successfully applying for a heightened rent increase too.
Shocking, would like to know how the ruling was justified.
Every year my rent goes up by more than the allowed amount. It's difficult to fight it when you're a tenant though because angry landlords can make your life hell.

The price gouging some landlords do is crazy. I'd take a ####hole with a kind landlord over the perfect house who is owned by a ####.
Are you in BC or AB?
Alberta doesn't have a limit on rental increases, BC is max 3.5%. Used to be 2%.
I am fortunate to have bought a house in Feb of 2020 while prices were extremely low, but I am very sympathetic after a few bad experiences renting in the decade and a bit preceding.
And now the BC United is closing their campaign to work with the Conservatives. Should be interesting to see how this pans out.
Worked out great in Alberta when the same thing happened. Hopefully most British Columbians are smart enough not to hand the keys to these psychopaths.

Damnit. I literally just moved to Cranbrook a month ago to get away from the conservative provincial party
