I was browsing Reddit and came upon some comment that claimed that Season 2 was originally meant to have 10 episodes but they had to cut it down to 8 due to a number of factors (including the writer's strike?). If true, it kind of makes sense why the finale we got felt like a bit of a letdown with a bunch of stuff to come. In a GoT season, we would've gotten an epic episode 9 after all that build up.
So we're getting the new GoT show before this one concludes. 6 episodes of "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" in late 2025.
Seems a bit odd, as this series takes place in between House of the Dragon and GoT, so it might give away the ending of the House of Dragon. I guess we kind of know that anyways, everyone and their dragons die. The new series takes place 90 years before GoT, so I'm assuming that's 1-2 monarchs before the Mad King and Robert's Rebellion.
GOT basically already told us how the DotD turns out.
I think the fun of HotD is in seeing how it all unfolded.
Hopefully the Dunk and Egg show can be a self contained story and not touch on those events too much/often.
A year and a half is a long wait. I wish they staggered these shows more evenly so we would only have a year at most between new content.
So A Song of Ice and Fire is a legend passed down from Targaryan ruler to Targaryan ruler, foretelling of the long winter and the driving force to keep the realm united to face the Night King. A legend so powerful even the most self serving Targaryan (Daemon) bent the knee immediately after seeing the truth to it. Makes the Mad King look even more like a twat, tossing centuries of stewardship and throwing the realm into chaos right before the real #### hits the fan. I kinda want at least a mini-series for Robert's Rebellion just to see the worst character in the history of the Seven Kingdoms brought to life

Seems a bit presumptuous to assume that the Song of Ice and Fire gets passed down to the Mad King. Especially in the midst of a civil war.
All it takes is for one Targaryan to unexpectedly die before passing it on to their heir for the chain to be broken. Or both the current ruler and heir to be killed at the same time.

It seems that Targaryans do spontaneously learn about it via vision too. Both Daemon and Heleana learnt about it via independent vision. Heleana exists in a reality that's a little to abstract for her to put it all together though.

Also possible that the prophecy has served its purpose. Gave Rhanerya the conviction to start a war for the Iron Throne and set everything in motion for what happens in GoT and winning against the White Walkers.
Making it moot if it survives past this generation of Targaryans.

You'd also think that the prophecy might be better served by letting some of the other houses in on it. I'm not entirely sure why it needs to be a secret. Everyone was aware of the white walkers at some point, and it faded into myth. If everyone was in on the prophecy, the Night's Watch could have been built up into more than a dumping ground for the unwanted.
But I guess, as Heleana keeps saying, everyone has a role. Maybe the prophecy being hidden results in the pieces all falling into place to defeat the white walkers.

Yep - just where I am. Last couple episodes have been horrible. I enjoyed the first season, but it's lost me. It's not season 7&8 bad, but it seems to be on that trajectory.

Rhaegar, the Mad King's son and heir, was well aware of the Song of Ice and Fire, and even proclaimed his son Aegon the Prince that was Promised. And that there needed to be 3 heirs as the dragon has three heads.
So, it definitely survived House of the Dragon/The Dance of Dragons.

It's a key part of Rhaegar's back story and the alleged entire reason that he stepped out on his wife with a stark teenager.
BUT
I don't think this means that it survived the dance. Not necessarily in a father to son way at least. There's a lot about Rhaegar that seemingly changes after he visits summerhall as a youth and (potentially) meets the Ghost of High Heart. IF the Ghost of high heart is one of the greenmen from the isle of faces, and if Daemon survives the fall and lives on the isle of faces after as is speculated in F & B, then it could be that is the source.
It doesn't seem that Egg knows about the prophecy, for example. And when Barriston Selmy tells Danearys about her parent's arranged marriage, he mentions that the Ghost of High Heart is allegedly who told her Jaeherys 2 about the PTWP bloodline.
The season finale of HotD was like that because of David Zaslav and budget cuts to HBO content. That guy is actively destroying everything that made WB and HBO good after already running Discovery into the ground.
