I've only watched reviews of this series. I don't have a problem showing the Jedi as flawed but it sounds like they just flat out suck now. That makes it difficult to understand how they successfully kept peace and justice for the galaxy over a thousand generations.
Yeah they were portrayed as incompetent here. And lacking emotional control, which seems to contradict their principles and training.
Also easily killed...
Long gone are the obi-wans and jinns of the order who were thoughtful, disciplined and coordinated as a team.
Apparently those types were just a flash in the pan.
Congrats to the new guard of "star wars" creators on successfully making the jedi uncool.

I thought the incompetence thing though was on purpose? At least to me, I thought it was intended to show how they had a very unwarranted superiority complex because of their wizard powers.
Osha clearly didn't want to "ascend" in that weird witch ceremony. She wanted to be a Jedi. She wanted to live a life with other children. There was also clearly something unwholesome going on with the witches plans.
Mae clearly exhibits psychopathic behavior by using her force powers to torture animals, and the witches were fostering that attitude.
Relating that to the Catholic church removing indigenous kids is a bit of a stretch.
I would argue if the Jedi in their arrogance wouldn't have stomped into the enclave with their whole, only we can train force users, and that means your kids, then this slaughter of the witches wouldn't have happened.
There wasn't anything that was unwholesome or child soldier training like when Sol first stumbled across the girls playing in the woods.

Sure, but we could argue that it was probably pretty easy for the Jedi to "keep the peace". Their primary enemy had been gone for a thousand or more years. They were stomping out non force powered pirates and crime lords for the most part.
The Jedi didn't evolve, they weren't really challenged, and arrogance and entitlement started to grow.
Meanwhile we can see the Sith were evolving, were training to execute their grand plan.
By the time of episode 5, its pretty clear that the Jedi lacked training, a single Sith apprentice pretty much wiped them out with joy in his heart.
I think you can also make a leap that if the Jedi believed they could come down from their golden place to demand the turning over of Children, that with a little push from the Sith, the people of the Galaxy as we saw in the Clone Wars cartoons, would turn against the Jedi.

I suppose, but Disney has already #### on the Jedi we once revered in enough of their entries that in this show at a time when they were supposedly at their height, to get the same treatment of them seems like a poor move.
I get the logic that they wouldn't be prepared for a Sith after not encountering any for many years, but they could've had some of them not suck and forget their lifetime of training in the heat of the moment?
As others said this show didn't really adhere to the established lore supposedly so maybe we should take it in kind with the same level of seriousness
Yea George already took our childhood Jedi toys and busted them up, it’s called the prequels. Palpatine’s meticulously planned triumph would be a bit more impressive and/or tragic if it wasn’t against a cabal of arrogant, oblivious, bumbling hypocrites, no?

That is literally what let Palp's plan work, Dooku also stated it's why he left the order.
The Jedi you are used to are the pinnacle for talent and strength, many like Luke or Qui-Gon also didn't closely follow the orders doctorine.

There is the interesting thought that at the point of the Acolyte because the Jedi hadn't been seriously challenged that training had slid, and the lightsabre combat has become more ceremonial then anything else. Teach them how to block blaster bolts and do some parries, but your fighting none force sensitives.
Then after this episode, because Yoda clearly knew what had happened, that they upped the training on light sabre arts. So we get the more powerful prequel jedi. But the arrogance never goes away and they fall into the Sith trap.

I kind of really like the idea that the Jedi, the infallable hero's of light, literally deserved to fall.
But in legends, its funny if you go back to the Old Republic days, to the Bane era, and to the SWTOR era, the Jedi were actually fairly evil warrior monks.

**yes... i know it's hutt.... but i'm quoting the article
Quote:
A bikini worn by Carrie Fisher in ‘Star Wars: Episode VI Return Of The Jedi’ has sold for $175,000.
The iconic gold costume, which also included hip rings and bracelets and was worn by the late actress when her character Princess Leia was captured and chained up by Jabba the Hut, went under the hammer at Heritage Auctions in Dallas on Friday.
The auction also saw a miniature Y-Wing starfighter ship used in a mission to destroy the Death Star in ‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope’ sell for a huge $1.55 million following a bidding war.
The model was one of just two ‘hero’ Y-Wing filming miniatures built by the Industrial Light and Magic visual effects team.
...
And the costume made filming difficult.
She explained: “I had to sit very straight because I couldn’t have lines on my sides, like little creases. No creases were allowed, so I had to sit very, very rigid straight.”
But the actress enjoyed getting hands-on when it came to using the chains to kill Jabba.
She said: They asked me if I wanted my stunt double to kill him, but I wanted to.
“I sawed his neck off with that chain. I really wanted to kill him.”

This looks like the Goonies in space. I'll probably check it out, but the trailer doesn't feel very Star Wars-ey to me.
Oh lord what are they doing to this franchise..
It would be cute and fun if it had no association to Star Wars, but unfortunately it does. No pre-Disney fan is considering this a part of the canon in their mind. Same with Acolyte.
If some people enjoy it then all the power to them, but I'll politely decline this one I think.

I think my kid will really like that show. Which is ok by me.
