Well, the stadium is not NFL quality, and frankly, the on field product is arena league 2 caliber or lower at this point. McMahon has been downright dangerous for a long time, particularly for families. The concourse is designed to handle a crowd of maybe ten thousand. I'll be shocked if the CFL is still around in five years. How are the Stamps profitable, TV money? They can't be making any money at the gate. The announced attendance might have been 20,000, but we all know it was actually way less last night.

I’ve been a CFL fan for decades and just a casual NFL observer. While the NFL is superior in many ways, the CFL game is more interesting and exciting. NFL players are better but CFL rules make for a better game if you want excitement and offence.

Quoted for 100% truth.

If I had a dollar for every time I have heard the predicted demise of the CFL in X years. I would be retired.

Literally the same narrative since the 80's.

Maybe the doom and gloom crowd will get it right this time?

CFL rules with NFL talent would be the best sport in the world. Even with CFL timing rules in the NFL would be make it a better game.

Who wants to see a team kneel down in a 1 score game if the other team doesn't have any time outs after the 2 minute warning.

I know your schtick is to hate anything Canadian but Leake's TD run was clocked faster than any NFL TD run last year at 22.25 miles. Faster than Metcalf, Chase Brown and Hill.
and if you think Arena League players are better than anyone in the CFL you are pretty stupid.

I’ve frequently said this. I don’t know the clock rule but have seen an NFL game that’s over with a couple of minutes left in Q4; I’ve also seen three TDs scored in a CFL game in the final two minutes.

I would say the Stampeders future is murky. I'm not sure how much longer they can continue to play in McMahon and remain viable. Other markets have newer facilities and generally decent attendance but the Alberta teams who at one time were the gold standard for fan support are in difficult times. I think the Elks are talking new stadium and I have no doubt they can get it done in that market but Calgary is kind of lagging the rest of the country when it comes to getting things like this done. I just don't see this market getting a new stadium and putting money back into McMahon would be a huge waste of money.

With new stadiums comes the need to pay it off. If ticket prices rise 30% or more as they would in a new facility, I think you're going to price a bunch of current season ticket holders out, and also not sure you're going to attract those who desire or require updated facilities to make them want to go to a game willing to pay more, to offset that loss of the current revenue, overall...and in yesterday's cases in Sunday of a long weekend it's even less likely.

So instead of the excuse being supposed outdated facilities, as it is now for a sector of people, it will then be it's too expensive for many in that same sector.

In the NFL, you can technically win the game by gaining a first down with 2:39 left on the clock, if the other team doesn’t have a timeout, and you stayed in bounds.

Calgary will never get a new football stadium. McMahon is run down, and when there's a packed house, yes, it is dangerous. There's no room in the concourse at halftime to walk safely. When's the last time the Stamps had a sellout? I was a season ticket holder for years decades ago, and the crowds were normally at least thirty thousand.

No, I don't hate the league at all. Love the CFL. Did you miss the part where I wrote I was a season ticket holder for years?

The stadium is a dump, usually about a quarter to a third full from what I can tell. Wally Buono got his big night in front of what seemed like several dozen people in the stands a few weeks ago. The solutions from the people in this thread seem to be to convince each other that the CFL product is more entertaining. If it was more entertaining, it would get higher ratings. Nobody seems to care much about the league anymore.

I'm genuinely curious to learn about the economics of the league, and to figure out how it isn't bleeding money.

there's nothing wrong with mcmahon. a dump? like ya, its not modern. but there arent roving games of homeless stabbing people in the stands.

compared to princess auto or mosaic, its dated and ####. but the sightlines are great and world class football is on the field. people need to stop making excuses

The CFL is one of the only sports that actually changes how the clock is run at the end of halves and it's kind of heavy handed. While it adds to the entertainment value, the last three minutes of a game can totally undo a solid defensive effort over a half because of the clock stoppage after every play totally favoring the offense. It's an artificial way to add offense to the game. Would fans like it if the NHL made any puck shot past center ice in the last two minutes of a period icing? That would likely add a few more late period/game goals but it would be hard to stomach a solid 18 minute defensive period undone by the rules changing in the last few minutes of the period that totally favor the offense. So while I get that it makes the game more exciting I do prefer the NFL's purist approach of not altering the offense/defense and changing how the clock runs to artificially add offense.
