Only pea-sized here in Okotoks. It was intense, but passed quickly.

Castleridge.
Just a bit of pea sized hail, nothing enough to damage, so far.
Still dark, and pouring.

My folks’ trees got shredded, canvas swing ripped, etc. Still raining heavily so they haven’t assessed siding or car yet. Luckily the car that was outside was the old one, but they are certain it will be dented. Said twonie-sized hail.

Nothing in Chestermere yet, but it's looking ominous to the north.
My wife is at the airport and reports they asked everyone to move away from the windows. Also said a section of the ceiling collapsed due to water.

Did we forget the metric system for hail measurements is hash browns? Looks like purple perk cubed hash brown sized hail being reported.

So does anyone here have experience with hail damaged house siding? Took a quick look around the house and I estimate that we have 10-12 sections that are damaged and will need to be replaced. Our insurance hail policy has a $5000 deductible, is it worth it to even contact them or should I be looking at private repairs?

Just had a short but really intense 5 minute dump of pea sized hail.

depending on how old the siding is and the manufacturer they may not be able to colour match your siding so they may just replace everything on the house. The $5k doesn't seem that bad at that point though.

10-12 pieces of siding? If you can get an identical replacement and it's only on one side, possibly not worth the deductible. You can always get a private quote and if it comes in really high, go with insurance then. You have two years to claim.
Living in Saddleridge, I've been through this a couple times. Went through insurance but got it repaired privately. The payment can be a bit of a hassle, especially if you have a mortgage and the lender has stupid policies, but when a bunch of homes are damaged, going private seems to be the better choice, IMO.
Update: In Saddleridge there were some big ones to start, but nothing like the storm 4 years ago (baseball size but no warning that night). Then really heavy hail, but smaller stuff. Windows are intact, which is nice. Looks like some smaller holes in the screens. Roads are flooded in spots, but everyone seems to be making it through.

YYC runways are completely covered in slush so we're scrambling snow removal equipment so the planes can land but the plows are understandably not ready to go.

So did you have the insurance company come out to do the original estimate? Also could you give some recommendations on a company for private repair?

We used Great Canadian after the storm last year. Excellent work.

In my case I did, but I had significantly more damage. I went private and my neighbour went through insurance. Mine was done faster and with fewer issues. (When it's a big storm, I think the issue is insurance companies need a ton of contractors.)
I will PM you the company I used.

Round 2 is here. Lots of lightning and pounding rain where I am but not much hail to speak of.

One thing to consider is that if your siding is f’d your roof is also likely cooked.

There’s a video on Reddit showing puddles on the floor inside the airport near some gates. And a piece of ceiling falling.
EDIT: twitter, not Reddit.
