The Flames should take some picks to help someone shed a large amount of cap in order to sign Draisaitl and/or McDavid.

For the Penguins? Absolutely.
No way they make a move like that including Yager for a 2nd round pick.
That’d be an unreal steal for Calgary.

Well, I assume Yager is the price to dump Hayes. But they just took on Hayes for a 2nd, so no reason for them to trade a higher price to trade him.

I'm disappointed the rumoured plethora of offer sheets that we might see throughout the league this offseason hasn't come to pass.
oops: meant offer sheets, not qualifying offers.

Yes. It's shocking that offer sheets, which only seem to exist to help spur online chatter during the offseason, didn't actually come to fruition. Yet again.

What? Are you saying barf from the Flames perspective? Pens wouldn't touch that deal and we'd be so lucky if they did, lol.

The way some of our depth guys played over the years in the playoffs, if we had a true elite 1st line we could have won. Backlund's line most years is very good in the playoffs, young Sam Bennett was as well. Gaudreau was not. He's not elite, just very good all-star caliber, just not in with the guys I mentioned and can't be the go-to guy on a cup winning team.
|
Not picking on you, because you're right in many ways, but I'm not sure if Bedard was seen as a generational talent fully. There was certainly a lot of hype and murmurs of him being such, though the jury is fully out on him. He looks good, but we'll see what he can do with his stature over time. He seems to have been hit hard this past year with his style, so who knows what adjustments he will make to cope.

Flames continue to keep an eye on Kakko.
NYR still have a high price tag, though Kakko has not lived up to his draft spot at 2 and teams know he’s asked for a trade and a fresh start.
There’s some rumblings that NYR asked Calgary for Kuzmenko, with potentially some additional pieces on their end. These came out of NY though so I was told can’t be for certain.
Not sure Id take that trade if I’m Craig, I think Kuzmenko could pop and end up being worth far more at the deadline, but I wanted to share what I heard.

Interesting.
Best case scenario, I think we could get a late 1st and a bit (maybe b+) prospect for kuzmenko at the deadline if he does great.
I guess it depends what the plus to kakko might be. I'd probably take Kakko over a late 1st given we have a decent amount of picks already over the next few drafts.
Kakko + korzack or a 2nd and I'd probably take that.

Small scoring rental winger for Kakko, why even think twice, just do it.
If you’re acquiring Kakko it’s because you think he can pop. You’re not getting a player/pick with the upside you think you’re getting in Kakko for a rental winger.

Because a few years ago, it became the default insult for online morons and a few posters here (who are probably all banned by now) started throwing it around towards anyone they disagreed with.

Yeah, I don't mind it. If you hold on to Kuzmenko till the deadline, you're likely getting a late first rounder at best but more likely a late second. If Kakko finds his game, you're either getting at least the same if you move him at the deadline -- or he's young enough you could sign him long-term and he could be a key player through the rebuild.

I saw Berard play in junior. He could score at will and put butts in seats doing so, and his 2 way game was non existent
I had some vigorous responses to the suggestion that it’d take him time to learn a more complete game which is required in the NHL. You’d have thought I killed someone’s dog. It was comical
A few adjustments are needed, there’s less time and space - gotta keep your head up. And he needs to work on his complete game
Crosby came out way closer to fully baked

I would be very happy with a Kuzmenko for Kakko trade. If we get another piece, even better! What are we waiting for?

I just don’t think they are that efficient of a tool for GMs to use. Generally the teams that have the space aren’t all the interested in running up the price point on young guys while giving up the draft picks they covet.

Well the thing with Crosby is he wants to be elite at everything. It's a will that's often unmatched. So stuff that he wasn't as good at - such as faceoffs - he spent hours working on to get there. He worked on his shot and became the NHL goal-scoring leader. He sat in on PK meetings when he didn't even PK. If he missed a goal he would recreate it until it was second nature to him.
Bedard is a hell of a talent, there's no question. Up to him whether he wants to be an offensive wizard, or an all-around elite player.

Would definitely be waiting for the + + on that. Not sure the Flames should be fire selling a 28 year old 70 point winger. I feel like the Rangers will eventually find out that Kakko’s value is around Lias Andersson’s value when they traded him.
