I'd deal kikuchi and Gausman this deadline, both of whom I think would bring back a decent return.
I think Gausman relies on fastball velocity to make the splitter work, and there's a chance he continues to decline making him very ineffective the last couple of years of his deal. I think someone like Bassitt who depends more on pitch mix is a better bet as he ages, even though he's older than Gausman.

Personally I would be looking to keep Vlad long term. He’s young and can still be a part of a future. Jays are in rough shape for a while but I also don’t
think your going to get a talent near Vlad in a trade so I would keep him and pay him. Bo I would wait and deal in the offseason unless someone pays up but I wouldn’t be in a rush as I doubt his value is that high.
Jays should be listening on everyone else though and I agree that I’d be aggressive in moving Gausman too. I don’t see this turning around for the Jays in the next year or two so don’t see value in keeping pitchers that are over 30. Get some prospects and retool.
Of course none of this matters if Atkins remains the GM or they stick with the same team building philosophy moving forward.

Agree with this. You trade vlad for 3 prospects, and I think the chances of not getting someone who works out as well as him are pretty high. They have the budget to sign him long term, he's a Canadian citizen and likes it in Toronto - make him the face of the franchise through the retool that appears to be necessary here
I do think it would be possible for them to make a big splash in FA this year - seems like a stronger class to me. I think Soto goes to whoever gives him the most money, and if you add a good infielder (say Bregman or HS Kim) you could put them with IKF on the left side of the infield, fill 2B internally and leave Vlad at 1B. Combine that with Soto/Varsho/Springer in the OF and you've got a good looking team. Add a reliever or two and get a bounce back from the pen and you're in contention.
Even if you can't get Soto the 2nd tier (eg Anthony Santander) is better this year. Personally I'd be willing to give up some corner OF defense for a guy who has already hit 28 HR this year.

With Vlad, its all about will he sign? If he will sign what does the deal look like etc.
With Bo, my guess he is gone, either leaving as a free agent or traded in the offseason

I'm not sure, with the Jays they are not 1 piece short of going for it.
Bull pen, might be the worst in MLB
They need multiple positions players...
Etc
Lots of holes have to be filled or they won't make a dent in the AL east

I personally don’t get the hesitation the Jays have with signing Vlad. I can understand the position argument to a degree but I think he’s a star and he’s in the right age range. I don’t think he’s the type of player you regret investing in so just pay him what it takes.
He really should be signed already as by all accounts he’s been willing.

Sure, I do think it might be a very difficult deal for both sides
Agent will ask the Jays, what is the plan for the next 2 to 4 years
That might be a key question, before Vlad would sign a lengthy deal

I think they're 2-3 position players short, and 2-3 relievers short of being a good team. Some of the relief upgrade could reasonably be internal improvements (eg Swanson back to form). I think it'd be possible to deal with those holes in FA, although not easy. They don't have any prospect depth to trade from, which makes it harder.

Agreed. Which is why I think they made a mistake in not signing him long term already

I would guess quite a few more,
3 new pitchers in the bull pen (Garcia and Richards are gone, depth is a serious issue)
1 new starting pitcher
Starting Catcher (Jansen is either traded or gone in the off season)
Add 1 new RF or LF that has power or hits with average (Next season they have Varsho and Springer, rest are bench like players)
Need to add a DH with power,

Yeah, I was comparing to the current team, ie implying they re-sign Kikuchi/Garcia/Richards/Jansen. If you don't then you need replacements for those spots as well.

With Richards, he is no real value. Just a case he is gone in the offseason,
My guess the other 3 are traded at the deadline

Below was just reported,
The Mariners and Blue Jays are in agreement on a trade sending right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia from Toronto to Seattle, reports ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Outfielder Jonatan Clase is among the players headed back to Toronto.

Sharp is 5’7 and 180lbs. Between him, Kirk, and Aaron Parker it seems the Jays have a type when it comes to catchers.

Decent trade. Don't care about the catcher just minor league depth.
Jays have so many holes to fill in the organization they might as well trade anything and everything. The won't of course and will bank on Bo returning to form and the old guys continuing not to get old.
Vlad is a good player he is just not a superstar and huge difference maker. Of course he's not getting much help right now but in general he is to inconsistent to be the star.
The pitching depth will be gone though.

The text indicates he's only 5 foot 9 inches, but had the first 20-70 season in the minors. I'd question how much power someone that size can bring to the majors, but we'll see. Still, very fast and a switch hitter, seems like a potentially good pickup.
The type of guy you'd want KK to spend some time with teaching him how to read the ball in the outfield.
