Interesting? Yes. Surprising? Not in the least.

I have long wondered how many piles of money it took Katz to buy them. He must also know where several bodies are.

Oilers fans doing everything they can to cope and defend the signing. Now there's a narrative that the controversy is overblown and it's just a vocal online minority and most people are fine with the hiring. They use the fact that Edmonton Oilers instagram account hasn't lost followers this past week. Cope harder.

I feel like I am in crazy town with all the Oilers water carriers trying to spin this as though it was just allegations and we don't really know how much Bowman knew and maybe it wasn't much.

But also, he got blessings from the victim and Sheldon Kennedy so it doesn't matter anyways.

Like they are trying any way they can spin this as a nothingburger. And if they succeed, then they can start going on about how good the Hawks were and how he has his name on the cup and how multiple unnamed teams all tried to get him and several sources consider this an oiler coup to be able to get him.

Would love to see someone put Dube and the 2018 Team Canada World Junior boys faces on top of the hitchhikers.

Edmonton Oilers make mid-summer splash in UFA signings

Oilers can’t wait to sign Dube, McLeod, Foote and Hart.

I mean… their arena bears the name of Sportsnet’s parent company. They’re not going to sully that financial relationship by doing responsible, independent journalism.

I hate that new Flames scoreboard is Sportsnet branded for this very reason.

Update: Got this in response to my email.

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your feedback. We understand and appreciate your input.

The decision to hire Stan Bowman as the Oilers General Manager was made after extensive due diligence into the 2010 Kyle Beach case and the subsequent work by Stan over the years to make amends and support Kyle—while also working with Sheldon Kennedy’s Respect Group to help make positive change. In regards to the Kyle Beach incident in 2010, Stan has acknowledged that trusting his superior to handle the situation as promised was not acceptable. Stan has taken full responsibility for his inadequate response.

Stan has since built a relationship with Kyle Beach and has worked with the Trinity Western male and female players, where Kyle now coaches, to build the team’s curriculum on creating a safe hockey culture—leveraging Stan’s work with the Respect Group. Both Kyle Beach and Sheldon Kennedy support the Oilers hiring of Stan Bowman, and Stan’s experiences since 2010 have him well-positioned to be a leader at OEG and an advocate within the NHL community.

The independent report is available here if you would like to learn more about the incident in 2010 and Sheldon Kennedy’s endorsement of Stan Bowman can be found here.

Thanks again your feedback

They apparently sent a mass response to what seems to be lots of emails, all with the same message. Embaressing franchise.

So with the "extensive due diligence" the organization did, it's quite apparent that the organization had intended to make this hiring long before he was reinstated by the NHL.

So begs the question, when did they start the due diligence process and why did they elect to do so? Seems they made the decision to hire him long before he was reinstated. Embaressing for the franchise and the league.

Imagine being so desperate that you hire a guy you have to defend with mass emails to the fanbase. Insane.

For all the overt reliance on Sheldon Kennedy's official public endorsement of the hiring of a recently NHL-reinstated GM by a member organization of the NHL, it seems appropriate that the terms of the partnership, including the financial terms, between the NHL and Respect Group Inc (co-founded by Kennedy) ought to be also disclosed to the public.

I mean, I am not saying the endorsement is necessarily tainted, but unfortunately for Mr. Kennedy, the official relationship means he is not as independent as he has been in the past and if they want the public to accept the endorsement then the public should know what Respect Group Inc and Kennedy personally do or do not have at stake if they were not to keep the NHL happy with supportive PR.

One need only look at the OEG Inc. website to see the potential conflict of interest on display:

Quote:
OEG Inc. is proud to be part of the NHL’s partnership with Respect Group...
https://oeg.ca/about-us/sustainability-inclusion

From the NHL media release at the time of announcing the partnership in 2021:

Quote:
“The partnership with Respect Group is an extension of the League’s strategy to lift hockey culture by investing in learning, prevention, reporting and workforce development, placing a greater emphasis on accountability for organizations and leaders of this game,” Davis said.

“We at Respect Group have full confidence in Kim Davis and her team and in the leadership and support Commissioner Bettman is providing,” Kennedy said. “I believe the League has a very comprehensive strategy to continue to address all forms of maltreatment and we are grateful to be a part of the culture change as it continues to unfold.”

Seems like that would be something you might want to follow up on to be sure you are all on the same page. No biggie I guess if you can just duck your head in the sand and move along.

It really is a bad a look and everything they do to try and smooth things over just reeks of desperation and the idea they knew they were going to deal with this.

I don't think they have a line as it pertains to the oilers.

They could hire serial killers at this rate. They've got the appetizers out of the way with no harm, no foul according to their obedient shills.

Did the Oilers hire posers online again? Sure seems like it with disappearing profiles on fb and some of their comments.

Connor McDavid without a doubt was asked if he was OK with this hiring.

Another reason to dislike that diving rat.

That's like saying "I was just following orders".

Total joke of a franchise and the mental gymnastics their fans are doing now shows just how blindly devoted to that team they are. It's like MAGA for hockey. You can't reason with them, no evidence will ever sway their opinion. It's a cult.
